In the iTunes package I found a .icns file that has the iTunes logo and "WMA" written on it. I have attached a Jpg version of one of the sizes (.icns files have three parts). Is apple expecting to install WMA in iTunes? I guess we shall see, but until then what are your opinions?

If you want to find it yourself its in iTunes 4, right click (control click for the one-button mouse bound) on iTunes.app, and go to Show Package Contents -> Contents -> Resources -> iTunes-wma.icns.

Please trust me this is not fake.

i've seen the icon as well, but really thought nothing of it at the time. perhaps they were planning support and then decided not to, and forgot to remove the icon from iTunes 4 final release?

i hope they do add WMA support, even though i'd prefer mp3. but being able to play WMA files would mean not much stuffing around, converting etc.

Is there a licensing fee from microsoft for the WMA codec? If so, this may be why itunes deos not support it.

Maybe there is some kind of connection between the WMA icon in iTunes 4 and the iTunes version of Windows, which should support WMA?

Don't other non-micosoft product have this support?

    VLC?

    MPlayer?

Heh, well, we could discuss the legality of both of those products, but if you do a google search you can probably find most of the argument.
