Apple Announces a Faster, Better Machines Coming This Year

CUPERTINO, California—April 14, 2004—Apple® today announced faster, better desktop and portable computers for home and schools, including faster PowerPC G4 processors and faster PowerPC G5 running at significantly higher clock speeds, faster memory, faster ATI Radeon graphics and USB 2.0 and Firewire 800 connectivity to peripherals. Offering even more power and performance, Apple’s most affordable SuperDrive™-equipped systems will be standard on all models.

“The new line up coming out this year will be the best we've ever had,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Product Marketing. “Offering incredible value and speed right out of the box, these machines will be everything you need for today’s digital lifestyle including iLife ‘04, Apple’s award-winning suite of applications for creating and managing digital photos, music and movies as well as all the pro apps everyone has come to love.”

Ok, so its pretty much sure to happen, but looking over some of the threads there are so many talking about updates that we never see - I was thinking that doing a spoof of the whole thing would be fun - Onionesque :D

It's great to see the lighter side of Mr. Anderson. :D I agree that his post is going to come true, the problem is timing.

true, but this is more of a direct shot at Apple, even though tongue is planted in cheek :D

But I think at this point its going to be more interesting to here *why* we haven't had any big updates instead of what/when they might happen.

I've been thinking we ought to put all this wasted energy—waiting, frustrated, for updates that never come—by teaming up on some sort of project like a website that takes C|Net to task for every MS fanboy lie, or guerilla advertising for Apple's Macs, since they only spend money advertising iPods anymore.

But Onionesque spoofing works too. Sigh. Such a long wait. I'm not even in the market for something, I just want to see signs of life at the electronic fruit company. :(

sorry, iPod and ITMS has been pushed a little too much lately. Apple is getting more recognition for its music tech than its computers....that's just sad

Weird that Apple would write a headline that had a mistake like "a ... machines" in it. Jobs is going to be all over that lackadaisical copy editor for letting a dumb error like that slip through. ;)

The thing is I think Apple will upgrade evey single one of their machines this year. In fact by WWDC we should have had or been told about them all I think.

They better have something pretty new and exciting out this year...it's the Mac's 20th anniversary, for the sake of little white iMacs.

Of course, anything really cool will probably have to wait until at least WWDC so Steve can have the spotlight. :)
