'Workflow' for iOS Gains Apple Music Playlist Support, 20+ New Actions

Popular automation app Workflow has been updated with a number of new features and now provides added support for over 20 new actions.

For anyone not familiar with the app, Workflow is an automation tool that lets users create a variety of workflows to accomplish tasks like creating GIFs from a series of photos, pulling images from a web page, translating an article, calculating a tip, and more.

Users can create their own workflows or download them from the Workflow gallery and other third-party sites.

With the release of Workflow 1.5, the Workflow Composer has been optimized, a search function has been included, and a number of new app actions have been added, introducing enhanced support for integration with the iTunes and App Stores, Safari browser, Ulysses, and more.

For example, the dedicated "Search App Store" action lets users search the App Store and scrape details of selected iOS apps (such as price, release date, and artwork), which can then be passed into subsequent actions inside a workflow.

Additionally, Workflow includes new Apple Music actions that enable users to create playlists and add songs to an existing playlist in their Apple Music library. Support for project management tool Trello has also been included in the latest version.

Workflow 1.5 costs $2.99 and is available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store. [Direct Link]

Workflow is really awesome. It truly demonstrates that iOS is the most powerful mobile platform in the world, and you can accomplish so much with it.

This is such a clever app and I'm glad it exists. But for all the time I've had it, played with it, and looked at other people's Workflows, I've never managed to do anything with it that's actually useful to me.

I bought it for the ability to create movie review entries in Day One. It was awesome for three weeks, then the workflow broke and no one wrote an updated version of it, so I guess that was that. I've never found another use for this. Guess it isn't my interest... *shrug*

Same here. I made an extension to post a photo to Instagram via the share sheet since Instagram refuses to make their own, but that's about it. That alone was worth the price of the app, but I'm still sad I can't think of better stuff to do with it. There are a lot cool workflows in the app, but none of them really apply to me.

I agree, all those actions and workflows seem nice and useful. And I promise myself to use it if necessary, but then, so much time passes by that when I need to use it, I forget about the workflow and just do it the usual way.

I recently added a workflow that I keep in notification centre to "Delete Last Photo" from my photo library. I've found this so useful in clearing up the clutter that has built of from sharing screenshots. Of course, I could always go into Photos after sending the screenshot and delete it, but I found I never did that in practice. Pulling down into notification centre after sending the image seems to be working really well for me.

Reading the comments gives me relief. I though I may be the only person to look at stuff like Launch Center Pro, IFTTT and Workflow and struggle to find any sort of meaningful automation routines.

I'm sure some verticals like writers are able to craft some nice workflows but for general purpose needs much of the workflows don't seen to deliver any real impact.

You could probably fix that Day One workflow. It could be either the URL scheme got updated or the API for your source did.

It's going to get less useful as iOS evolves. More apps are going to get share sheets and 3D Touch shortcuts, and more people are going to be using keyboards like gBoard. Siri getting better isn't going to help it either, although if you're able to incorporate Siri into Workflow workflows because of the new APIs, then maybe that is something that will catch on.

I use this app all the time for evernote. I have several workflows from recipes to pictures/graphics. I just started to look at Trello so this is a nice addition also.

It took me a while to really find use from this app. One workflow I use a lot is one that @Jessica Lares helped me with.

It's a workflow that brings up a list of MacRumors sub forums and let's me pick the ones I want to open in safari. It may seem odd, but it's much more handy than manually tapping and holding on 6+ links and selecting "Open in new tab."

I have been thinking about getting this app. I want a workflow that will open settings and connect to my scale using bluetooth and then open the scale app and download my weight. I do this every morning and it would be nice to cut down the number of steps I have to perform to accomplish it.

Let me add that I only mention this to help the people who can't think of a workflow to maybe think of something that would help them.

If you're someone who has a remote system always running as a server or some such, this app can let you tie functions to a quick-to-access button widget which is pretty useful.

I wanted a way to send specific text messages by tapping one button in the Today view. I couldn't find any way to do that on iOS (i don't think Apple allows apps to do this with iMessage without requiring iMessage to open and you hitting "send"). So with Workflow I have it run a script remotely via ssh on my mac which uses Messages to send the text.
