    hey guys,

I've got some RAM that I want installed in my MBP and i've had a go at installing it my self but the screws are so damn tight and i'm scared that I might break it. If i arranged an appointment with the Mac store and took my machine to them would they install the RAM for me?

    Thanks for your time

    Z

They will most likely charge you for doing a very simple job. Im not sure what the MBP innards are like but if they are anything like my iBook was then the RAM (and airport card) are stuck in there pretty tight. It can take some immense effort to get things in and out but as long as you dont bend anything while you are pushing and pulling (ooh thats sounds painful) you should be ok.

*walks away gingerly holding knackers*

Disclaimer: If you do bugger it up dont blame me :p

I had the exact same problem yesterday and I went to Best Buy and Apple Store. If you bought the RAM from 3rd party, NO, Apple WILL NOT do it for you.

So I ended up installed the RAM myself.

    B&Q very good

You can get a small screwdriver set from B&Q for about £5. It has about 5 to 6 small screwdrivers including a 00. Failing that, try Maplins - but they tend to be more expensive. Hope that helps :)

Ram for the MBP is such an easy job. It is in the little panel right above the battery.

I hope it's easy! I've already tried with a el cheapo 00 screw driver but the screws are in so damn tight it broke the screw driver! I'm now waiting for a decent screw driver to arrive in the post

All this just to add a stick of RAM....

Apple has installed my third party ram twice.

Both times were applecare appointments around separate issues. After we'd resolved the problems I mentioned that I was having trouble installing the ram.

On both occassions they glanced around and said, "Do you have the ram with you?" And each time they disappeared for five minutes and came back with a wink and a smile. Treat people well and they'll treat you well! :D
