Everytime there seems to be major conflict Israel seems to pop into the frame either directly or indirectly.

Now I'm wonderin' if Israel hadn't existed would the world be a better place? Terrorism forms a massive chunk of world conflict today. The root of it seems to be scathing for the existance of Israel in the first place.

    hmm I wonder....

No. Just one less country that wants to blow up their enemies and call it self-defense. You could say the same of Saudi Arabia, the US, or pretty much any other country.

No, but the world might have a greater chance for peace if all nations
enforced the separation of church and state.

Unfortunately, as long as men profit from the business of war, there will never be peace.

Is there any reason for being so sarcastic and condescending? Why not just say - "No, It wouldn't, and I believe this because........."

Why can't we seem to get a discussion going without it turning into that?

No it wouldn't, because as long as there are ambitious people willing to seize the power of the state and twist it to their own ends, there will be war. Israel is just a particularly glaring example.

As Rousseau said "Man does not wage war on man - states wage war on states" (rough paraphrase from "The Social Contract")

Of how people have appropriated state power to their own ends to the detriment of others. All states are the same to a greater or lesser extent. Israel is just more brutal in the execution of it.

The only reason why any conflict between Israel and their neighbors ever becomes a concern to the Western countries is because of oil. If the Western countries weren't so extremely dependent upon oil from the MidEast, they wouldn't care what Israel and their neighbors did to each other, short of causing extensive structural damage to the Earth. It has always been the access to oil issue that has caused the U.S. and other countries to get nervous whenever a conflict in the MidEast region erupts.

I have no idea what you are talking about, and I fear, neither do you.

If there's one thing that unites the various political factions in Israel, from left to right, is that nobody is terribly keen on being wiped off the map. Why this comes as a surprise to anyone comes as a surprise to me.

Both Israel and the Palestinians are manipulated into keeping their fight going. There are billions to be made both from the trade of arms and the financing of the groups wishing to buy them. Without conflict in that region, the warmongers will simply go elsewhere.

Just like all the ills of the human race. It all comes down to greed.
