Has anyone tried this? A report would be appreciated! Please include:

    • Your setup
    • FPS and video settings
    • Your experience with WoW

    Thanks!

I don't know about WoW, but I've seen other games such as Call of Duty 2 running full res on a dual G5 30" apple screen. No FPS issues there, in fact it was beautifully smooth! WoW isn't HUGELY graphics intesive is it? At least, not as intesive as COD...

As long as you lower your resolution to maybe 1680x1050 or lower and medium to low detail you should be able to get away with it on a high end powermac with a high end video. WoW will destroy your graphics card lol I have an x800xt and it gets its ass kicked. I believe i saw a thread where they are still working on enchancing the code to speed up the graphics on the Mac.

Its possible yes, but dont expect full resolution and high quality.

Seriously? I want to hook it up to a loaded 17" MBP, but it's probably not worth the extra money, if I can't run it full resolution.
So I'll get a 20" ACD instead. Of course, I could get a Mac Pro too.

But I'm surprised, your setup should smoke WoW. Are you running it on a 30"?

Why would you want to play on the 30" ACD? Its so big that you literally have to move you head around to see things. Not to mention it costs as much as a new Mac. At least go for something a little less ridiculous, like a 20" or 23".

    WOW max's at 1920*1600, which is a 23/24" res.

Would still look stunning on a big Apple/Dell monitor.

I have played it on a 30" acd, and it's not that bad. It was on a quad G5 with an Nvidia 7800GT. It ran very well, but not awesome. I had the FPS meter up and it was running at about 30-40fps. This right outside orgrimmar waiting for zep.

I believe it was running at the native 2560X1600 resolution, but I didn't check. If it wasn't, it still looked really sharp and crisp, the text didn't look blurry at all.

I look forward to it! :) Thanks!

I'm especially interested in the performance at 1920 by 1200, the optimum resolution of the 23" (now that I know WoW has a ceiling).

Basically, this will help me decide if 23" is worth it over the 20".

The game used to run very smoothly for me (when I played it) on a single 1.8 G5 with radeon 9600/64 MB. 20" ACD at full resolution. Though maybe your definitely of "very smoothly" is different from mine...

I have not regretted for one instance buying my big 24" Dell.

If you can't afford the Apple's big 23" then you should strongly consider Dell's big boy.

However, wait untill after WWDC - you never know if theres going to be an update to the Cinema Display line.
