Hey, I am thinking of upgrading my XP partition on my 20" iMac to Vista, which I get through my school for free. I have a few questions before I take the plunge:

    A) Will my games work?
I basically only use XP for gaming. I mostly play CS:Source, but I would like to be able to play any game that tickles my fancy. Are there drivers for the X1600, and is Vista compatible with most games?

    B) Will it run smoothly?
I have 2 gigs of RAM, the 128 Megs VRAM, and the 2.0 processor. Will Vista run smoothly, and will it support Aero?

    C) Is it easy to do?
Is there a bootcamp drivers solution for Vista like the one apple gives for XP? Would all of my peripherals work?

    D) Is it worth it?
At this point, is Vista a lot better than XP? Is it worth the upgrade? I use OSX as my primary OS, and do all my important stuff on there, so I guess the risk isn't huge, but I still would like to hear some impressions.

    Thanks for the help!

A.) Dunno, search google for the games that you are going to be playing.
B.) Aero should work perfectly on your machine. It should also run smoothly.
C.)No drivers released yet, but that is because Vista hasn't been released to consumers yet.
D.) Vista is supposed to be a lot more secure, at this stage i think it is too early to tell. I would keep that free copy of Vista and see how it pans out over the first month. Then decide.

I would strongly advise not doing an "upgrade" installation, a lot of windows problems are caused by doing that, do a full installation if you can.

Thanks, I think I might wait for a month or two and get some first impressions.

Opinions are still welcome in this thread, I am still very interested in what people have to think.

    I have Vista on my 17" iMac (2GHz C2D, 1GB RAM)

    A) Some of them, but Vista is very picky with games, and some can be a little slower

    B) Very yes and yes

    C) Some of your peripherals might not work, force feedback doesn't work on a lot of Logitech parts (which is why I'm moving back to XP)

    D) No. If you keep yourself safe, XP is just as secure, but with less compatability issues and less memory use. I'm in the process of backing up to move back to XP as we speak.

I wouldnt be the first to be running Vista, Microsoft has a history and it aint pretty plus Toms hardware just did a review on gameplay with Vista and it looks like its got issues and will have for the next year. Im waiting before I use Vista so they can fix it first.
