So they don't have to make any more than they need to?

They probably have stopped production, but are out of stock and want to do just one more production run of exactly the number they need, instead of having extra stock sitting around.

It looks like it could be a 2U 6 dive server!!!
Maybe active was given the ok to run osx server on their hardware!
Remember Active's founder Alex Grossman was on the xserve engineering team.

Alex Grossman is a 20-year veteran of the storage industry and a former Senior Director at Apple where he was responsible for driving the development of Apple’s server and storage products. Prior to joining Apple, Grossman was Sr. Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and New Product Development at MicroNet Technology, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of hardware storage solutions for creative professionals and IT managers. Grossman has contributed to several patents associated with storage technology and led the team that developed the first FireWire based Storage Area Network.
