Eye candy is one thing - but what about productivity?
Not forgetting smudges too on the screen, and probably cost a bomb to convert my 24" widescreen to a touchscreen

I'm going to call "fake" on this one.

I doubt it's fake. XGL is real and touch screen capabilities have been available for years. Just put 1 and 1 together.

What I find humorous is how all the linux fanboys think XGL is so superior to apple's quartz extreme and claim it's more productive, yet not one demo shows superior productivity. It's all pointless eye candy that kills productivity because you'll be stretching windows around all day for entertainment value. Very cool, but very useless judging by all the demo videos I've seen.

Some of the hand - graphics sync seems too far out!
The graphics seem to pre-empt the hand a few times.

Sometimes even reaching for the mouse seems a nuisance. Having to keep reaching across to the screen would be a royal pain. Especially to drag across one of those 30-inch jobs. And what is it with jelly windows? And imagine how the fingerprints would look on a black screensaver  All in all, not very practical.

One thing this sort of thing would let you do is use two hands — e.g lift up a window with one, and pick up a file from underneath with another. Whether this is any better than say Expose and worth the expense of a touch screen I don't know though. :p

lets see...so I need to take my hands off of my mouse or keyboard and raise them up to the screen and do this? If you're like me and you have a corner of the screen dedicated to this, there is no way this poses an advantage.

His right arm seems a lot hairier than the left.

It's all about a daedalian implementation.

I'm sure Apple and Microsoft play with similar toys.

seems like the hand movements are way too slow.... as in, trying to match the movements of the wireless mouse his buddy is working.....

cute though. ill stick to a wacom and mouse.

I agree to all that say XGL is more about eyecandy than productivity.

To all who say its fake though... huh? How? XGLs been able to do that stuff for awhile now.
