Cars of the eighties? Do trucks count?

The original Toyota Landcruiser (not the current remake); specifically the 1983 BJ42:

Sweet!

I would say that is mine too. Those things are awesome. The new ones? Well, I think Toyota needs to get back to the drawing table.

One of the most comfortable cars every built. It could be driven into a brick wall at 60 MPH and barely have a scratch on it. Not to mention, one of the most reliable and best looking cars from Mercedes Benz. I fell in love with this car many years ago. My Grandparents had one, a 1989 black on black. They just recently gave it away because they didn't want to put new tires on it, put a new battery in it, fix the AC and radio as well as a few other things such as a cracked dash. It pisses me off every time I think about that car. Put a grand or two into it and it would be perfect.

They kept the car in showroom condition until the day they got rid of it. Yes the paint was a tad faded but that car was treated right. It received all the proper maintenance and was loved by everyone in my family from the day it left the dealer in 1989 (actually, when everyone found out they had given it away, many members of my family were quite upset lol). It was put in the garage every night until a new Lexus and a new Porsche kicked it out. While it needed a few minor things, that car truly looked brand new and was a complete dream to drive and it was driven each day until it was shipped to the vacation home in Florida where it spent some time until it was given to a family friend who runs a Limo business. Someday I hope to get the exact one.

The car I'm talking about? A black on black 1989 Mercedes Benz 420SEL.

Growing up my three dream cars were the Lamborghini Countach, the Ferrari Testarossa, and the Porche 959. There's been plenty of mention for the first two so here's some pics of the 959.

^ Seeing that reminded me of this.

Tom Selleck and Ferrari 308 GTS:

Actually, 3 models were used:1979 308 GTS, 1981 308 GTSi, 1984 308 GTS QV . They had to be modified for the very tall Selleck. Padding was removed from the seats so he would sit lower. The seat was bolted as far away from the steering wheel as possible to provide more room. And think about it, you rarely saw Magnum driving with the top on.

Mine is the '84-86 Mustang SVO. I've owned two, the current one I've had for 8 years now. They all came with a 2.3L turbo 4 and a 5-speed and had several suspension upgrades to improve the handling.

I currently have a long rod 2.3 built for mine with Weisco pistons, Crower rods, ported head, Essy cam and so on, built and sitting on the stand waiting for external parts. I should get 450+ horsepower and 30MPG from it really easily.

Another vote for the Grand National, and the third gen F-bodies (Camaro/Firebird, though I'm partial to the Camaro) of the time (granted mine's a '90):

Also love the 5.0s of the day.

Curious, why the '86 as opposed to the facelifted/more sought after 87+ models?

I personally prefer the quad headlight look and the sloped front end vs. the 1987 blunt/two headlight front end. I also agree on the SVOs. I was always amazed that a turbo 4 was faster than the V8 GT models. And handled better.

Vector: How many teenage boys in the 80s had the Vector or Countach posters? I know I did.

Ferrari: As cool as Magnum made the 308 look, a lot of Ferrari fans don't like it or the Testarossa. I always wanted a Testarossa in white, since that's what Sony Crockett drove. That was an exception to my Ferraris must be red rule. :)

::raises hand::

I wasn't yet a teenager then, but Vector had their shop just down the street from where I spent my early years, so I was a fanboy. And yep, I also drooled over Crockett's white Testarossa. :)

Yep, me too. Had the Vector poster but that was it - think I got it at a school book fair or something.

As for one of my favorites, I'd have to go with the Nissan 300zx. Technically I believe it was released as a 1990 model year but came out just under the wire in 1989.
