In the past, a SIM-free model hasn’t shown up until after the release of a new iPhone so no specified time at the moment. That being said, while there won't be a SIM-free model available at the time of launch, any full priced/contract-free carrier iPhone would be unlocked! Which carrier did you intend to use your new iPhone with? We can definitely see what options are available for you from here!

I am on tmobile, but plan to switch to verizon next year

Ok great! You can purchase the T-Mobile iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with the Pay In Full option. This will be a contract free iPhone and will be unlocked for you to use with another carrier here in the US as well as internationally if needed!

but the website says the tmobile device can not be used with verizon --"AT&T and T-Mobile The iPhone for AT&T and T-Mobile does not support CDMA and will not work on Sprint or Verizon Wireless."

The locked versions that are tied to a contract cannot be used across providers. If the device is unlocked and not tied to a carrier or contract, the device can be used across any carrier or internationally.

are you sure about that? because for sprint, it specifies that 'after unlock' it will work with att and tmobile

Correct! Once the device is unlocked the iPhone will work across carriers. If you pay in full for the device without a contract the iPhone will come unlocked so it will work with any carrier in the US and internationally.

I am still not comfortable, because the website seems to say otherwise. Is there a way I can just get a Verizon unlocked device paying in full?

You sure can! Any of the carrier devices can be purchased as pay in full but they do have to initially be activated to the carrier service in order to be activated.

I do not have a verizon account obviously, so will i still be able to purchase verizon device? It seems there is a account verification page after selecting verizon

Our online system will only allow the purchase of devices for existing accounts, however, you can purchase in store or directly through Verizon for a new account since the pay in full device does have to be initially activated with Verizon service.

If I go to the apple store now, will I be able to pre order a Verizon device (without the verizon account?)

I’m afraid our preorder is online only however you may be able to do a preorder through Verizon directly!

Anyway, I will get the tmobile device, and test it with my friend's Verizon sim card if it works. If what you are saying is true, it should work right away. correct?

As long as you get the pay in full, contract free device you are good to go!

Perfect! Then you will receive the unlocked model and that will work for you on any carrier you choose. We have a 14 day return policy, which means you have 2 weeks from the day it arrives to your door to test drive it! If you're not 100% satisfied, you can return it in store, or via mail. Correct! The tax would also be refunded if you decide to return the device.

You can certainly save our chat - there will be a link you can choose after you close out our chat that you can send this to your email. However, you will have no issues using any unlocked iPhone between carriers!
