Wow good day sir! How are you? I am still out and about here...

I have since long sold my 2009 iMac, as I moved overseas. Things have really changed here for me. Pop me an IM and we can talk some more :)

      Hey DoFoT9!

I don't have a BD drive in my iMac, I have an internal one I hook up externally with a cheap SATA to USB cable (I paid less than $110 for the BD burner and cable last year, it also makes for the fastest DVD and CD burner around too, 8x BD speed is only 36MB/second so USB 2.0 is good enough).

I do have the 2009 Quad Core i7 2.8GHz, and I love it, you can buy a brand new one for under $1699 now (I paid $1599, no tax, no shipping cost) and 16GB is less than $200 now too. The hyper-threading works wonders, it does easily run close to 800% in the Activity monitor with HandBrake and Folding@home, etc. The Core i5 iMac will only show 4 cores (no Hyper-threading).

You can upgrade to 16GB for less than $100 now, then sell your Hynix 2x2GB (Apple included) for $50+ to anyone with 2008 or newer Mac. Tell them it's top quality from Apple for half the cost.

This is where I get my SODIMM Memory:

Hello gatortpk! I wish I could afford a BD drive in my iMac (2009 i7 model, right?), I only have an external one currently. 12GB is lots of RAM, however not quite enough for me, I might be upgrading to 16GB soon.

I've had a Mac since 1984 (yes, still have the 128k "Thin" Mac). I have owned 20+ Macs as well as several required PCs for work (latest is a Skylake i7-6700K with GeForce GTX 980 Ti with two 4K displays). I do computer repair and make house calls. I like to read about science and technology.

    Signature

Retina MacBook Pro 15" 2.8GHz, 16GB RAM, 27" iMac 2.8GHz Quad Core i7, 32GB RAM, etc., iPhones 3GS to 7 Plus, No Boot HDDs anywhere
