I have a 12.9 iPP 3rd gen and the Apple Smart Folio keyboard (ASK). The £ symbol is on the same key as the 3.....so it is a UK keyboard, not a US keyboard which has the # symbol on the same key as the 3.

    But when I press shift+3 I get the # not the £ .......... I have to press opt+3 to get the £.

All the other top row keys do what is labelled when used with the shift key.

    This can't be right....have I got a setting wrong?

    Google has not helped!

    Thanks

    Problem solved.....GBoard app.

Uninstalled and the ASK is behaving correctly.

    Swiftkey is OK.

GBoard was set to English UK so not a GBoard setting issue.

I said Swiftkey was OK but although I haven’t found any key stroke effects like with GBoard, I now realise (and there are a handful threads around about it) that both GBoard and Swiftkey summon up the software keyboard when they shouldn’t, with the ASK attached.

I have the US and UK keyboards installed. When you have more than one, you have to toggle through to the one you want by selecting the World symbol next to the space bar. Possibly during the setup of your IPP, you inherited the settings from your iPhone.

I know you said you've deleted one. If you put them back, you just have to remember to toggle to the Keyboard layout that you want. Hmmm I'm curious if the shift+ 3 or the opt+3 will work even if I'm in the US but using the UK keyboard. hmmm.

Yes I guess it would have been feasible to leave GBoard and Swiftkey installed and use the "World" key to deselect them when using the ASK. I didn't actually test that I have uninstalled both now and this works for me because I realise I very rarely used the swipe typing they provide.

I might put them back on to investigate if, even when not selected, they still cause the other problem of the software keyboard popping up when it shouldn't, because the ASK is connected.
