Thanks for the link which will doubtless help somebody. But all those settings are correct.

The Apple Watch records the distance (including incrementing the distance during the activity) so it has access to GPS. It just doesn't retain the map. It started happening after upgrading to 8.1. All previous activities show the map but none since the upgrade. Hence noting it as a bug.
It uses pedometer when there is no or poor gps-signal. Even when there is gps signal is present it presumably include pedometer data in its distance calculation (The Workoutdoor app can switch between Apples and gps distance, but default is Apples way).

As I said it is not a new problem, so if that guide didn't help you might find a better one by searching. I have not done any outdoor tracking lately and also don't use Apple workout, so I cannot personally claim that it works, but I imagine it would be in the news if there was a general problem.

It was a cycle ride, so it isn't using the pedometer. It gives distance and real time speed. It is using GPS. Just not retaining the route.

I appreciate your help but this isn't a user error. I do the same cycle each day, with the same settings. The GPS map stopped showing after 8.1.
Ok, but if you have gone through all permissions in the guide. You can do the final suggestion in it, unpair and pair. It actually is not bad to do anyway after a major version update. Previous years it solved battery drain for me. And if restoring from backup works, is not that much work.

I seem to remember folks had this issue with watchOS 7 early on too, or was it 6? Happened to some not to others. Sometimes re-pairing helped. Otherwise a x.y.1 fixed it I think?

Thanks for posting - hope you get it sorted - at minimum you've helped others avoid the risk as I shan't be updating just yet.

...but even if that works, it's still a bug. Hence the thread :)
I still think it is a permission issue, but there just is a time, where trouble shooting is not worth it time-wise anymore vs a reinstall. I learned that as a it-supporter. And I think there might have been a popup. Anyway report it to Apple if you like them to fix it:

I still think it is a permission issue,

Even if so, which doubt, it would still be a bug in that updating watchOS shouldn't change permissions such that a previously / normally functioning capability ceases to work without providing documentation/notification of that change.

As I said, it could be caused by a popup quickly being dismissed. And deep down, somewhere it is with guarantee a permission issue, bug or not.

Anyway I am have just now done a reset and restore of my own watch. Not because I have had any issues since updating, but if there is any battery life improvement to gain, they are welcome. Actually I did have an issue lately, the STRYD app would not recognize long press. I blamed the STRYD app, but maybe it was a watchOS problem. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With WatchOS 8.1 I am no longer able to connect my AW6 to either of my Apple TVs (4k and HD) for Fitness+ workouts. Works fine with iPad, however, so this could be an AppleTV bug. Can someone running WatchOS 8.1 test this on their Apple TV please? Thanks!

Workouts not showing GPS tracks since upgrading (?) from WatchOs 8.0

Any more?

Sorry to say but this is NOT a Watch OS 8.1 bug.

When I was on 8.0, ALL my GPS tracks showed up whenever I did a workout.

I updated to 8.1 last night and did 2 workouts this morning - both are still showing the GPS maps and my location on the maps.

Are you suggesting that because you aren't seeing the bug, it doesn't exist?

When a similar issue happened with watchOS7/iOS14, some people were affected and others weren't. The bug was very real to those who were affected.

The issue went away with a later update.

I've noticed a bug where the crown stops scrolling email notifications (when the full notification is viewed). Works everywhere else, including within the email app itself. I can scroll with my finger on the screen, but not with the crown.

Rebooting the watch fixes it for a while, then it'll eventually start again. I'm not sure if it's something to do with uptime on the watch (duration since last reboot) or if it's emails formatted a certain way that triggers the bug in the notification display. Either way it's a little annoying.

I’m seeing a bug where while dictating during sending a text, the send button in the upper right corner won’t work unless you tap it 6 or 7 tines. Then it finally works. I’ve started to just tap on the keyboard icon to “break out” of dictation mode and send the text. Really frustrating.

Just got my new AW 7 45mm and updated to WatchOS 8.1, now I cannot load web pages via Email or Messages. I've tried everything! Even went into Apple Store and many staff couldn't figure it out! I am forced to re-order a new one and get a refund! Ugh! Is anyone else having this issue? Try this, email or text yourself a link like apple.com and try to open it, if it just shows a black screen, then you have this issue too!
