I have an '09 dual-core MacPro Nehalem 2.26GHz with 8Mb of Ram installed.
I'm downconverting XDCAM 720p25 PAL footage by placing it into a FCP6.06 DV PAL sequence, as suggested here: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/ex1_sd_output_young.html.
I have Istat installed and I'm noticing the render from XDCAM to DV is only utilizing 20% of my 16 cpu cores. Is that low?
I was attempting to use compressor earlier for the same purpose, and compressor was only utilizing 15% of my cpus, and was at times more than 90% idle. I adjusted my Qmaster settings to use 8 cores, and started sharing, and also changed the cluster settings in compressor from the default 'this computer' to 'name of my computer'. There was no noticeable improvement.
At them moment, I'm encoding DV PAL to M-PEG2 in DVDStudioPro and I'm seeing the highest CPU activity yet, which is about 27-30%. I'd like to see something more like 80-90% CPU usage.
Is this normal, or should I be adjusting something else?
Thanks,
edward

Oops, sorry. My MacPro is actually a 2 x 2.26GHz Quad-Core '09 MacPro with 8GB of Apple ram. You'd think I'd know that by now.
