1 death vs. 49 deaths -- see, gun control can work

"Like Florida shooter Omar Mateen, Yishai Schlissel was a homophobic extremist determined to kill gay people. But Schlissel, unlike Mateen, lived in a country with strict gun laws: Israel. When Schlissel attacked a gay pride parade in Jerusalem a year ago, he was armed with a knife, not an assault rifle.

He stabbed six people, killing a 16-year-old girl before he was apprehended. Mateen used a semiautomatic assault-style rifle to shoot more than 100 people in a Florida gay nightclub early Sunday, killing 49, before law enforcement officers shot him to death.

There is no such thing as a right to bear arms in Israel. To get a gun, an individual has to apply for a license, show a need for a firearm (either for work or personal safety), demonstrate an ability to safely use a gun, and pass a mental health check. Licenses are only granted to individuals who have been Israeli residents for more than three years and who are over 21 years of age if they served in the military, and 27 if they didn’t. Even after obtaining permission to buy a gun, the government limits the amount of ammunition an individual can purchase."

But here in the idiotic U.S. we don't want to even try similar controls -- because 2nd amendment blowhards are too scared to allow it to happen.

Yes, I know there is no 2nd amendment in Israel -- so go back in your fox hole. It doesn't mean we can't have the same or similar controls in place, nationwide.

not one more inch... because the end goal is exactly what you want.

See that's exactly the problem. And the 2nd Amendment doesn't allow your alleged "end goal" -- so what are you worried about? Its all FUD. And guess what, by not giving an inch, you may just end up with people so fed up they end up voting to repeal the 2nd amendment -- so give an inch or makes things worse in your perspective.

Let's emulate that peaceful nation of Israel. We can start by annexing British Columbia, pushing out the primitive native hominids, and settling our people there.

Good luck repealing the 2nd amendment. After that all the people who feel they have a right to not be offended can follow suit and repeal the 1st.

It's time to start calling NRA members what they are - extremists. They oppose any sensible regulation of the gun trade.

Screw that. It's cold up there. We should push down into Mexico, where the weather's nicer.

Or the other way around, the US could be taken over. Especially when Canada, the owner of British Columbia, is higher than #37 on the W.H.O.'s list... Oh, wait, now the 2nd amendment would have a use- to defend the country as it states in the verbiage, how odd and on a number of levels...

To me sensible means that we allow guns for sporting and hobby purposes but not guns configured for creating mass casualties as one would in war. After all we are at war, and it makes no sense providing the enemy with arms and ammunition at the local Bob's Brew-n-Bullets....

Don't hijack the thread 9/11. This isn't about Israel policies outside of gun control.

That may be Isis's strategy. Use second amendment rights to revolt against the illegitimate, occidental, liberal state and replace it with a new state that won't succumb to decadence.

To which "primitive native hominids" are you referring to and how do you think that isn't offensive in any way?

Because one needs semi-automatic weapons for shooting deer or targets. Meanwhile, at Bob's Brew-n-Bullets a new piece is being sold to hunt ducks:

Seriously, some things are overkill. Literally.

did you not say hobby and sporting purposes? why shift the goal post? the AR is used widely in hunting varmints, it's perfect for it actually.
