Got my S9 45mm SS on Dec. 23, 2023 and it came with 10.2 installed. giddled around with watch faces and complications to see what I would like and making rough calculations as to which would suck the battery faster (Carrot Weather with a lot of notifications and any podcast app with a lot of subscriptions, such as old time radio shows). I have the watch set to always-on-display, with lowest brightness (still plenty bright for me, even with old eyes). Recharge every night with at or slightly greater than 50% battery life left.
Watchface/complications looks like
Upgraded to 10.3 No noticeable change in battery life
Upgraded to 10.3.1 and put it on the charger last night, kinda forgetting about it as I watched the special congressional election in New York, took watch off charger and put charger away - still in a thinking about election mode.
When I went to bed, I wondered if I really had charged it. Ah, no problem.
Woke up up at 4am, made coffee and looked at my watch for notifications. Hmmn, battery is at 36%; guess I must not have put it on the charger. So put it back on the charger and took it off at 5:30 am with a full charge. By 6:30 am it was down to 64% battery. Checked battery health (100%). So then I searched Macrumors, figuring battery calibration? Nope - still having rapid battery loss.
Bit more searching on MR and then unpaired and re-paired the watch, restoring from a this am backup and charged again to 100% and started wearing it again; now noticing what I think of as a normal battery drop of 5% in 214 minutes or 71 hours of battery time.
This semi detailed post of what I did may/may not help anyone. The complications I have that are actively and somewhat routinely updating are Carrot Weather (sub), Overcast Podcast(sub) and Steps - Activity Tracker (paid). Calendars 5 basically only updates or notifies with regards to my dialysis. Phone, Apple Music and Just Press Record are on-demand. I guess the battery display complication is a constant updater too.
