According to reports, Apple will be offering 10% Discounts at their "Night of Panther" release party at Apple Stores across the country.

The details of the promotion are rumored to be the same as last year's Jaguar release. 10% off Computers or 10% off other items with purchase of Mac OS X Panther.

As with last year, this promotion is unadvertised.

Well, normally rumors don't cause people to sit in a line for a few hours...

As with all rumors, there is a chance it is incorrect... but is felt to be accurate at this time.

(I guess I don't want someone to get pissed after sitting in a line for hours, if, for some reason, this does not come true.) :)

If it isn't true, the price on Arn's head would have been matched and raised by someone in the MacRumors community. Let's hope this post averts that :D

The only way to sit in line for hours is to BE pissed.:p (to use the British slang for, well, having a brewski)

Ah, heck, it'll be fun to be in line even IF there's no discount...which I'm sure there will be, if the last OS rollout was any indication. All these Apple fans, pounding away on their PowerBooks and iBooks using the wireless access oozing out from the store to connect to MacRumors...it's such a fun time.:)

It might be true. I got a hint from my local reseller that there might be a "surprise" of some sort...

Cool thing is, the party seems starts at 8pm everywhere - that means I (living in Germany) get a head start of 9 hours compared to the west coast. :) :)

I guess that means no live broadcast from Steve, then. :-/

It's too bad they don't extend that discount internationally. The stores here in Taipei are adamant that they are not offering any discount. They told me the only promotion is a free t-shirt for purchasing Panther (NT$ 4150).

Of course, these are the same stores that have been installing "free upgrades" to Panther for the last week to those people who ask politely. Me, I'm shelling out the dough for the real deal. Can't stand piracy, even officially "sanctioned" piracy like the apple stores here engage in.

So we have to buy Panther "in store" to get the discount? Darn, I was hoping for a little money off a wireless mouse.

Oh well, it'll be fun getting wireless access outside in line, posting like mad on MacRumors! And a free t-shirt is always nice. :D:D:D:D:D

can't wait

I and a friend who only came to the good side of the force in the last week (his powerbook arrived Tuesday) are driving up to the Short-Pump store. The 10% off sounds like quite a deal unfortunately I'm so broke all I can afford is Panther. A t-shirt would be nice though. I think the biggest plus to Night of Panther, though, is meeting all the other Mac nuts. I was at the grand opening for Short-Pump and it was just insane.

Where else will you see that many people that excited just cause a store opened? I hope my friend can handle it. It can be a little odd to see that many grown people cheering when the doors open then packing in like sardines.

it's been a great week

it's been a great week. I'm speculating some more iSight drawings might also happen tonight. iChat AV is a standard feature in 10.3, after all.

the 12" iBook G4 is great! just 200MHz more and it'd qualify for Pixlet. oh well. :)

Could Anyone please tell me if last year the 10% discount was offered on top of the educational discount, or was this not available? It's been brought up in other forums but remains a mystery.

I get 10% off anyway, because I work for a computer company. I will not be able to get panther for a week or so, I will wait to see if there are any problems and then I will purchase Panther, I may get Keynote as well!

Hey, me too. Panther will be at my door this afternoon but I would still like to go and check this event out. Hell, a free iMac... I'm down for just going for the drawing. I was hoping too I could get a 10% on some things (DVD-Rs, an extra iPod cable). Oh well though, I'm still thinking of going.

7 hour round trip to buy a Duallie, a 40 Gig iPod, 23" Cinema, iSight and to celebrate.

10% discount to offset the 7.5% sales tax?

Priceless.

conditions?

i spoke a rep from the local apple store and he indicated a sales promotion was going to take place but coulnd't give specifics.

for those of you familiar w/jaguar's 10% promo...

does the 10% apply to any item purchased tonight or is it 10% off any item IF you buy panther?

if i buy an iBook, for example, w/panther preloaded--does that trigger the 10% discount?

if i buy a PM (presumably that will include a free upgrade to panther) will that trigger the discount?

In the email Apple sent me, they said that Apple computers would also be given away as attendance prizes! Maybe I won't have to plunk down 3k for a PowerBook after all... :D

Question about Apple store events.

Are they 8-midnight in a particular timezone, (eg 8-12 Eastern, 7-11 Central....) or 8-12 in all timezones (ie West Coast will get Panther an hour before Mountain, 2 before Central, and 3 before Eastern)?

if you buy Panther for $120 or whatever the full retail is, you get 10% off anything BUT a computer/notebook.
