    Greetings all!
So, barring no "suprises" with my recent eBay transaction, I will soon be putting the proceeds from selling my beloved G3 iBook towards the purchase of a shiny new G4 iBook. I've configured the two different 14" models exactly the same (no RAM upgrade, 60GB HD, Combo Drive, AE card, and built in BT) from the Apple online store, and the 1GHz model comes out $155 more than the 933MHz model (I get education discount). The most processor intensive app I'll be running is Logic Gold, and not to be cheap (although I can be) is the extra 67MHz going to make a noticable difference? Thanks in advance!

I don't think you're going to notice the difference- put the $ into ram and an airport extreme.

I second that. Use the $155 to get a 512 RAM chip. Much more useful than the tiny increase in processor speed.

The 933 is the sweet spot. The 1 GHz is just an option for those who want a 12" PB with a bigger screen...

Thanks everybody for your input. I was leaning towards the 933 and maxing out the RAM; glad to see y'all don't think it will be a mistake!

GET MACWORLD MAGAZINE march 2004 and read page 26.

    all the
    iBooks G4 VS
    PB G4 1Ghz and
    iBook G3 900Mhz

    With no S-Drive, all C-Drive

If you are a student using Discount and Cost matters

-And for 12", the iBook G4 is the one
-And for 14", the 933Mhz is the one
-And for 1Ghz, the 12" PB is the one

-12" iBook G4 is the fastest and cheapest
-14" 933Mhz is as fast as the 1Ghz by 2 secs slow only and it's cheaper
-for the cost of a 14' 1Ghz, the 12" PB is few pennies more and you get faster speed for Pro Prog by 50% faster and you also get input and Aluminium that is scratch resistant.

on the same mag, on page 27,
they said it also, 14" 1Ghz not worth the extra over the 933Ghz.

    12" G4 800 4/5
    14" G4 933 3.5/5
    14" G4 1Ghz 3/5

he said he's already getting both AE and BT, so that's not a problem...

while 1 ghz certainly has a nice sound to it, it's not really worth it. As others have said, that money will max out the RAM, which is what will really make a performance difference. I think you'll love your new ibook. :)

Cool! Thanks cmx08 - actually I have a subscription to MacWorld, and I think the March issue just arrived. I'll be sure to check it out. My current iBook is a G3 12" and even though I know the cost difference between the 12" PowerBook and the 14" iBook is minor, the additional screen real estate with the 14" would be worth it to me to stick with the iBook (yes, I know, the resolution on the 12" and 14" iBooks is the same, the pixels on the 14" are just bigger - but hey, I just turned 30 and the eyes ain't what they used to be. . .)

I'm sure you're right, seeing how much I've enjoyed using my OLD iBook!
