has anyone received their 17" powerbook yet? how is the screen brightness? i want to order one but i want to hear about them or test one out first. since my apple store isn't getting one until early march any help or links to reviews would be greatly appreciated.

I'm expecting mine in 2-3 weeks. I did see one again today at the Palo Alto Apple Store--it's in the window and there are none yet to "play" with (I liked what I saw at MacWorld). The Powerbook commercial was playing on it and I noticed how impressive the screen size is, how it can cover your main field of vision. It was hard to tell the brightness as it was in the window--I'm sure you can adjust it--aren't these the same screens as in iMacs? But I think it will serve my needs well. It's just that damn long wait that Apple makes us go through!

Great response, champ. Let's hear a round of applause.

Nevermind. Now I'm "completely serious" about not believing you.

In stock

I just got an email from MacMall saying they have the 12" and 17" in stock now.
Think I might wait a while though, see if there are any glitches. Can I wait? Not sure.

Yow. Macmall - if recollection serves - is an outfit that can ship next day if orders are in by some reasonable hour... that means one could have a 17" on Friday if ordering tomorrow. I still haven't heard that they've made it to the local apple store (tyson's corner, VA).

Didn't Jobs at MWSF say that the 17" PB used the same screen as the 17" iMac (packaged differently of course and with a different resolution)?

Or are they completely different widescreens made by completely different companies?

So if they're the same..just gawk at an iMac....

They are the same screen, but the backlight it different. The backlight on the powerbook is thinner then the one on the iMac, so it won't be as bright.

Also there are power comsumption considerations...so overall I would expect the screens to be not as bright as the iMac, unless the screen on the iMac wasn't bright at all. In that case then they will look the same.

Ubergeek is surfing porn! Hardly a way to use that new georgeous piece of machinery.

Other than that you haven't done more then brag about it. Fess up: how long from your order until getting it?

Or we can naturally not believe a word you said.

Take note, citizens:

The eerie silence. The lack of proof.

I believe we have ourselves a textbook example of someone spouting out some serious bull**** in a public forum.

Uber: I am now completely convinced that you neither have an AP17, nor can you even afford one.

Hey, she could be an Apple employee...Nahhhhhh
I don't think they would be hanging out on these forums like this. Unbefitting an Apple employee.

I think she also has one of those new dual 970s with a 256meg NVidia Geforce FX....:D

Maybe she's just an Apple hardware tester...and it's not really hers to keep. Keep an eye over the shoulder Uber, just in case the boss comes to your cubicle at an "inopportune" moment. Not to mention Steve himself.
