Its looking like gay marriage will be legal in Florida as well starting january 6th. But this most definitely is not the first gay divorce nationally.

So what? American gays are still quite new at this, maybe they took Pam Bondi as a role model and thought that a divorce is something you do as traditional family value preservation fighter  .

Not all that it's hyped up to be huh? Coulda' told you that.

It's way more fun being a member of "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" circa 1985.

It's like a thread based on ... black man swallows wrong at formerly "whites only" water fountain and has a coughing fit.

Maybe he was better off being denied that water in the first place.

    Uh-huh.

Oh. Well in that case it's a good thing that blacks are less likely to swallow wrong and have a coughing fit than whites are.

I was trying to figure that out myself. I assume the premise was that somewhere, someone said that gays would only get married for life and would never separate, and apparently, this is the first time a gay couple has ever separated. So the result is "See...SEE!!!!!"

It's Christmastime and at least one of the gay divorcees is happy:

"It's like an emotional weight being lifted off," said Brassner, who is from Lake Worth. "I just feel free and I couldn't have gotten a better holiday gift."

Meanwhile, why is it newsworthy? Well, Florida still bans same-sex marriage so it's surprising that they'd do same-sex divorce, right?

That's fascinating. I'd wonder about the legal precedence set by such a decision.

From the article in the OP (my bold):

Pretty important, because one of the challenges with gay marriage is that if you get married in one state that recognizes them and move to another that doesn't, you basically lose all of those rights.

Meanwhile, the ban on marriage was found unconstitutional in federal court:

If dancers came out and confetti and glitter fell from the ceiling at the end of hearing it would be really quite amazing.

Not that I make a habit of stereotyping, but that though did make me chuckle.

The flamboyant personalities that some gay people have would make gay divorce court entertaining.

Exactly Moyank. You got the significance. In January 1875, a court faced a similar dilema. When one of Brigham Young's many wives sought a divorce, the federal court (Utah was a territory then) found itself in this position. If they granted the divorce, they were recognizing the marriage.

Florida, at present doesn't recognize same sex marriage but by granting a divorce, this judge has just done that. Now, the question is if the Attorney General, Pam Bondi will appeal the divorce. This case can be very important.
