Tariffs are supposedly intended to convince people to buy domestic products. What about domestic producers who increase their prices so they can be more in their words, "competitive" with the tariffed products?

but you missed the point, the tariffs were meant to make Mexico enforce their immigration laws and stem the flow of caravans in. and it seems to be working.

It is entirely possible that potential immigrants might just think: "The US is actually kinda a dumpster fire, so Costa Rica it is."

It is. Highly recommend. Ecuador is also pretty nice (and on the US dollar).

The lady and I are considering Quito (Ecuador) for retirement. On the Dollar, relatively stable, nice weather. We're thinking of opening an adult Hostel/Bar - where you have to be at least 30 to stay. Ageist perhaps, but we have standards.

Demand should drop with the increasing price so it's a balancing act but you don't really want to lose marketshare as it can be very hard to get back once you lose it.

Fortunately there are a plethora of other vegetables out there as suitable alternatives.
