Besides betraying the bias of the writer, how is that even remotely relevant?

That says nothing about the writer as much as it does about the state of American politics. Especially when guns or other politically charged topics are involved.

Gun ownership is a huge thing that conservatives advocate for.

My guess is that a large part of the community either owns guns or is very pro-gun

Not to say there isn't any bias here.

    Two paragraphs up he writes:

I know Lake Stevens and it's very blue. I wonder why he didn't see fit to mention that?

Hayden is well known for right-wing nuttery. There was that Aryan Nations group up there. And Randy Weaver had his stand-off with the ATF not very far away. There are certainly plenty of rational, level-headed people in upper Idaho, but the most totally wack fringe lives there. Southern RWIs are pretty run-of-the-mill compared to the post-fringe crazy squirreled away in the corners Idaho's attic.

Maybe because it's a suburb of Seattle, and mentioning it's liberal would've been redundantly redundant?

    Hell, I don't know.

Okay, whether the article is biased or not, it doesn't change what happened.

It sure doesn't; it's tragic and was entirely preventable.

Could have happened anywhere, in liberal countries the kid probably would have accidentally killed the mom with a tricycle or something.

In a more liberal land, the kid would've accidentally ran his mother over while driving her eco friendly zero emission hybrid hatchback during a self actualization personal esteem child empowerment exercise.

Things like this kind of put down the argument that "guns don't kill people, people kill people"... unless of course you want to condemn a 2 year old as a murderer.

Parents need to be more responsible though. Isn't there safety latches and stuff on guns?

Gun didn't go off by itself
Depends on the gun. All guns should be in holsters that cover the trigger guard when carried, IMHO anyways.

Tons of that stuff available. But many guns owners feel like they might encounter some movie style dramatic quick draw that will save their life. Chances of someone being in that position and actually draws quickly without getting shot down first is extremely slim.

    Yes. Guns are inanimate objects.

I'm glad we established that fact.

    Again.

If only some good guy with a gun was there to protect the mother from this deranged toddler. Then again if the toddler had his own gun, he wouldn't have needed to grab the mother's gun and the mother could have defended herself.

I wonder if the little boy cried upon realizing he killed his mother.

Or maybe not. Maybe the boy still had no clue what just happened.

According to this story, the woman was a chemical engineer working at INL. The nuclear reactor facility in lower Idaho. So, she does not appear to have been a total moron. Only just stupid enough.

How do they know it was an accident? Maybe the toddler had a motive.

Being only 2 years old is an excellent alibi. Too excellent! Smells like he planned that all along.

Doesn't "careless around guns" = "stupid"?
