2004 Excel Password Recovery

I have a 2004 file that is password protected from a friend of mine and of course he does not remember the password. Can anyone help me figure out how to do it, or worse come to worse, an inexpensive download that accomodates OS X op system on a macbook pro?

Any help would be appreciated.
