wife bought me a huge surprise of a birthday present today, an iMac to replace my aging 2009 mini.

when she told me she spent 1400 euro i thought it was the present 21.5 base model, but its a refurb 3.1 ghz 27 inch 2011 model.

is there any downside?

it hasn't got usb 3, and its not the newest form factor but apart from that:

3.1 ghz rather than 2.7ghz both quad core i5
27 inch rather than 21.5 inch

not sure whether AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1 gig is better than Nvidea 640m 512mb

is this as good a deal as i think it is?

Hug your wife, tell her that you love her, then enjoy that massive display. It might not have USB3, but it's got thunderbolt and you can use adapters with that. Also has on optical drive, the lack of which has been annoying as all get out lately.

Be angry with your wife because she spent a huge amount of money for a non-cost effective buy....old technology is getting older every month and after a couple of years, you will buy a fresh iMac to remove all your bad memories and recover from that financial disaster....

reality is harsh, sorry!
