I've read a lot on here about people saying that Beta 1 of Mojave seems slower than High Sierra. I just recently installed it on my 2012 MacBook Pro (I upgraded it to 8gb of RAM and an SSD). On High Sierra there was much higher memory usage and when I first opened apps (especially Safari) they would sit there with the spinning wheel cursor for a few seconds before I could use them. On Mojave they load right up and I can use them right away. Anyone else notice better performance on this beta?

That shouldn't be happening with High Sierra on your Mac.

You should clear the cache folders on that machine and find out if there are any third party processes consuming resources.

I have a 2012 MBP too and have noticed slow performance in HS too. So good to hear that Apple have improved things. Although whether I upgrade depends on whether Adobe CS5 still works.
