Tonight is the first republican presidential primaries debate. Although Nov. 2012 may seem far away, in the political world it's rapidly coming.

Share discussion on the ideas discussed tonight, and in the future!

    Cheers:apple:

I think Nut means starting a thread about it.

In that area we at least have some control. ;)

I was reading for 2012 that Illinois is not going to be worth anything. It has gone so far Right wing that even the front runners have said they are not even going to bother.

It is a sad day when your own Party says forget Illinois.

Doubly so considering it's the sitting President's "home" state. Rather like Gore not being able to carry TN in 2000.

Sorry had my state wrong it is Iowa but everything else holds true. It is what ever state has the first one every time. When that has been one has been dump it is rather sad.

    Pooh. I'm totally into it.

Watching it on the TV right now.

If I had to vote for one of them, I'd lean Romney.

I think Ron Paul won this debate. Bachmann didn't even know that a constitutional amendment would overturn state same-sex marriage laws.

*I will never vote for someone who is opposed to gay rights such as repealing don't as don't tell and opposed to gay marriage. I can't believe people are still holding these bigoted ideas. Every single republican candidate says they are opposed to gays serving openly in the military. What the hell!

I wouldn't vote for any of them that answered that they'd like a constitutional amendment defining marriage. They profess state's rights through the whole thing, and then they want to take away the state's rights of marrying people.

I like Paul's view that the gov. shouldn't be involved at all!

Newt is actually doing well IMO as well. His views on immigration included the idea of "humane" treatment, which no one else mentioned.

Maybe he's just a sweet talker.

I had a gun to my head. ;)

Rick Santorum just had a very disturbing answer to the question of whether we should close some less necessary military bases overseas.

He not only thinks we need all those bases, but he also chastised Obama for his "feckless" defense of America.

Sounds like somebody's eager to exercise a little American superiority.

EDIT: Was it the moderator who kept muttering,"Uh-huh, right, uh-huh, uh-huh" while the candidates were answering the questions?

    One word: annoying.

I actually think it was Herman Cain who kept saying right.

Sane people everywhere should support an effort to tell people to Google Santorum if they want more information about him :D

(Google Santorum if you don't know what I'm talking about)

yeah, I didn't watch the debate, but from everything else I've heard Romney is the least insane. I wouldn't vote for Him as he is too conservative, but he is the only one that doesn't completely terrify me.

Thank you, for making Obama's re-election campaign that much easier.

I heard that too. I wasn't sure if it was me or John King going crazy. I know he was bothered by the long responses, but he literally "moaned" through the whole debate.

    Has to.

What war chest does the Tea Party have to fund a presidential campaign?

That said, it further puts to rest the notion that the Tea Party is independent and something other than the right-wing of the Republican party.

It's like he had Tourette's syndrome or something.

I would not put him back in that position again.
