Several years ago I opened up my 2011 iMac to replace the HD with SSD. During that process I encountered tons of dust that I was able to clean out which I believe helped with thermals and fan usage.

Might be similar in your case, although I believe the process is a little trickier on those models because of the adhesive holding the glass on. But not insurmountable and maybe worth a try.

I guess that you have been using both for a few years, and neither would have recent system updates. Is there any chance that you have recently updated software, or maybe a new app that you use on both iMacs?

If this is normal overheating, sometimes you can help things out by checking on the normal cooling problem areas on the iMacs-- the small port directly above the power plug can sometimes be an issue causing some new heat.
Shut power off, then use a small brush or similar across that little grill that you find there (above the power port). I even take a vacuum brush there, only takes a second to "suck it out". If that port gets plugged up, then a quick 'n simple clean from the outside might help ease the cooling. (way easier than if the cooling fan needs cleaning, or you need to get to that cooling port from the inside, for a more thorough cleaning.)

Be sure to check in your Activity Monitor, just in case there's some kind of software issue. You could check there for high "CPU %" for some process in your system. This can give you hints about what you might do with software, for example.
