    Hello,

I am a former 2016 15” MacBook Pro owner. I am wondering if the 2017 models are plagued with the same issues such as: popping, keyboard imprints on screen, general keyboard issues etc...

I finally decided I’m not the first generation person any longer haha.

Any info will be helpful for further purchase

    Thanks
    T

I am also interested in this, albeit for the 13 nTB version. But I guess it will be a similar story to the bigger brother 15".

Simply put, yes. The popping has been relatively common since at least 2015 and the latter two are ‘issues’ with the physical design - this hasn’t changed between ‘16 and ‘17.

The keyboard is very slightly different, so presumably slightly more resistant to debris. But it’ll be marginal.

Non-functional issues, though. So the 2017 model will still work just as perfectly as your 2016 does today.

Ok, a quick look around on the forum (unfortunately) confirmed that the 2017 models are still affected by the bad keyboard design. Which means I will sit this one out, again.

Just to set expectations - this keyboard design isn't going anywhere soon. It'll slightly change, sure, but the fundamental design will remain. You might be waiting a while for full-touch keyboards.

FWIW, I've used three of these "bad keyboards" since 2015 and haven't had a single issue.

Thanks, but I am talking based on first hand experience. Purchased 2016 nTB and returned it after 5 hours. The problem was not the shallow travel but the feeling of inconsistency behind the keyboard. I replace laptops every 5-7 years and this new one is no exception. I didn't have the feeling that this new keyboard was going to last me that much. Hence I returned it and went back to my trusted 2010 MBP. That was more than a year ago.
It is sad to see that Apple has not managed to come up with structural improvements to the keyboard. The problem is that this keyboard is mechanically unsound. How can a speck of dust cause an issue to the mechanism? Oh dear.
