I am seeing a lot of apps that display fine on my gen 2 12.9, that now have a wide black border on the new iPad. So many apps that I am not looking forward to waiting for app developers to make updates.

I’m sure you’ll get some people who will tell you to return it.

I’m gonna hold off from buying the new 12.9 until everything is optimized. My 10.5 is still going strong.

Probably why they have so few apps preloaded on them for the in store demos...
Exactly. I went to the Apple store to check out the new iPads, but there are no apps, not even the Apple apps (Pages etc.). How can you test it without those?

Why is there a black border on most apps on the 12.9" Pro when it has exactly the same resolution and screen size as the last generation 12.9" Pro? It would almost seem like it would require programming to add in the black border than to just let the app run natively optimized for the old 12.9" Pro.

Apps have to be optimized for home bar and rounded corners.

Because of the round internal corners. Apps that place content / text towards the very corner are subjected to be cut off if the interface is just maximized.

They will be updated soon I believe. It’s not that noticeable just a slight distraction if you look for it.

That's great, otherwise if it's only the 11-inch which has letterboxing, then nobody would even care. Now both of the iPad Pros are affected and we will see proper updates for both iPads soon.

Some reviewers never responded to my questions on the 11-inch iPad Pro and the letterboxing or completely conveniently ignored the issue. Probably in order to maintain good relationship with Apple.

The iPad Pro is really great, but this aspect should be well presented in a balanced review.

I didn't bother to watch any of the review videos but I'd venture to guess they aren't allowed to install apps on it? Just as with the store demo units, apps that would show the black bars are purposely absent.

Same here.

Some apps work fine already, such as Noteability which works great with the rounded corners.

Guess we’ll just have to be patient.
