Apple Seeds Second Beta of iOS 11.2.5 to Developers

Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming iOS 11.2.5 update to developers, one week after seeding the first beta and a week after releasing iOS 11.2.1, an update that introduced a fix for a HomeKit vulnerability.

Registered developers can download the iOS 11.2.5 beta from Apple's Developer Center or over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

It's not clear what new features, if any, will be included in the iOS 11.2.5 beta. We didn't discover any noticeable outward-facing changes in the first iOS 11.2.5 beta, so it's possible this update focuses mainly on bug fixes and security improvements.

If that's the case, we may not know the extent of what's in the update until it sees a public release. Apple is supposed to be releasing an iCloud Messages feature that was pulled from the iOS 11 release, but there has been no indication of when we can expect iCloud Messages to be reintroduced.

Should new features be found in the second iOS 11.2.5 beta, we'll update this post. Apple has also released new beta firmware for the HomePod, which will be available to employees currently testing the device.

There must be a valid reason- I'm uncertain as to what it is- why the public beta doesn't come out the same time as the developers beta. Anyone venture a guess?

Usually in case something rather bad pops up for many, that way the impact would be limited to what are typically mostly (or should mostly be) developer devices rather than many more end-user devices.

lol based on comment count in here, looks like people have enough and don't want to play lab rats anymore.
The negative headlines lately was simply too much.

I suspect that people are expecting Messages in the cloud when 11.3 is released. But the feature isn't ready to launch yet so they are toying with weird versioning skips in order to avoid delaying security and bug fixes.

More discussion in the iOS 11 forum as well. This is just a bug fix update beta, so just not as much "excitement" about it, but plenty of people are still on betas. (Not to mention that this seems like just the developer beta that's only been out for a little over an hour, and the public beta update hasn't came out yet.)

AirPods settings gone for me, they were usually found in the “about” section in iPhone

Edit: rebooted and it’s back

Bug fixes are welcome. The last beta broke my sylvania smart bulb connection.

No big deal but for every person that doesn’t care about bug fixes there is another person who does.

I've become a firm believer that the only safe time to download an iOS update (or buy a new iPhone for that matter) is in early August. That will ensure you get a relatively stable .3.5 install. .0 thru .2 iOS updates are for the birds.
