That was an awesome moment in Olympic and US sports history. A group of college hockey players beat the Soviet Union to win gold. That team that could and did. The well deserve our respect.
Not so fast my friend... USA beat Russian to get into the gold medal game. They then beat Finland for it all.
Gotta wonder what Victor Tikhonov was thinking. Pulling the savvy veteran netminder Tretiak in favor of Mushkin. Could have flat out been politics or a feud. or a good old-fashion f-you on principle.
Nonetheless, what many people also don't realize is the USA was shellacked by the Soviets in the preliminary round 10-3. And somebody scored from center ice for the USA at the end of the second period to breathe life into the team and spur them on to victory.
this anniversary just makes the NHL lockout more and more depressing

I know it is not the same but isn't there a WHL team near you? I find juniors to be appealing then watching a college game.
Yes, we have the Vancouver Giants but its really not the same. Its still fun to watch but you can't compare it to the nhl.
This is the 25th anniversary of the magic on ice. 1980, the US Hockey team defeated Finland, 4-2 to clinch the gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, NY. Go USA!

May I be the first to wish you a happy B-Day.
Gimme a break, hockey is boxing on figure skates with sticks for additional impact.
I thought the story was going to be about time travel and how they lost the first time round but went back later.
History can't be changed. Unless you're Michael Jackson.
There's a movie about this called "Miracle" staring Kurt Russell.
It's a good flick, not only for hockey fans.
