There are plenty of threads debating whether it's relevant or not, so let's stay away from that. Fact is, some users care (even if maybe they shouldn't). I'm one of those who cares.

So: Any guesses on when we'll know for sure? The first confirmation would probably come from a leaked Geekbench result, although the logic board photos from a few days ago are already fairly strong evidence.

First wave of reviews should have the answer. With the iPhone 6 is wasn't mentioned by a lot of reviews, but a few (like TechCrunch I think) ran Geekbench and found out.

Definitive answer will be on launch day or whenever iFixit tears it down.

A8X=2GB

A7 (in mini 3 it would seem, unless they popped an A8 in there and I missed it)=1GB

Now commence complaining that 2GB "isn't enough"!

I'll start:

When I have 8 really important forms partially filled (because who would use a desktop OR do one at a time???) and am listening to Pandora while playing Bioshock.... sometimes the tabs will reload meaning: (get this) I have to start the form over... ARGGHHH!!! It's super annoying because I need to do all that at once, and since I spent money the device should do whatever I want (no matter how ridiculous it might seem to need to do all that simulataneously).

What 8 forms am I filling all at once? Doesn't matter. Nunya. But they're really important and have nothing to do with porn. Pinky swear.

When oh when will Apple realize these devices NEED 4GB of RAM???

There. First.

:p

It has NOT been confirmed that A8X=2GB.

Pretty much confirmed.

MacRumours said:
A 1GB Elpida chip would have an "8" in the second character slot, while a 2GB chip would have an "A" in the same spot. Because of the quality of the image, it is difficult to say for certain what the character is, but it does appear to be an "A" rather than an "8" given that it is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom.

The iPad Air 2 might actually have 4 GB of RAM.

2x 16 Gb chips = 4 GB (according to that interpretation).

True. If it does, I fully intend on being the first person to complain I can't have 16 tabs enrolling into por... err... filling out important forms without having a tab reload because it REALLY NEEDS 8GB!

They better do it or I won't buy it.

Well, I'll buy it anyway (that'll show em!) but I'll complain about it!

I figure some review units will be headed into hands today, so depending on the NDA, sometime next week or at/near release. Not too hard to find out the memory, even without tearing it apart, since some apps can report it.

My reasonably educated guess is also 2GB due to the higher-performing GPU -- given the iPad shares system memory with the GPU for framebuffer purposes, it wouldn't make much sense to pair a substantially more powerful GPU with continued limited system memory.

i don't think the memory got a bump to 2GB, if it did it would have been mentioned and got a round of applause! The spec is on the website minus the memory

Those images could easily be for the iPad pro/plus. Right? We already know the 3x assets were not for the Air.

I think they are holding out on us and reserving the 2gb ram for the larger iPad coming early 2015.

So I say it's still 1gb.

No, the RAM chip is just beside the A8X.

Which means the 2GB RAM belongs to iPad Air 2

I highly doubt the iPad Pro will have A8X.

Apple never discloses iOS RAM specs. This keeps people focused on the specs that the masses care about, like weight and thickness. The masses don't care about RAM.

If they announced RAM this year, people would expect an announcement every year. That ain't happening.

I hope you are right but the pro was due to come out now, held back by supply issues, so I'm pretty sure the pro will have A8X, certainly not getting the A9 that soon.

Well, the parts were leaked components from the iPad Air 2..(along with Touch ID and logic board and stuff)

We will find out next week...

My SP3 has 8GB of ram and Apple honestly expects me to shell out $600 for their toy that has *maybe* 2?

In what world are you living in, Apple...

queue the: "you don't need 8GB of ram"

well I certainly don't on an iPad. It's 2014 and I can only run 1 application at once.

Here's hoping the watch is good, because the iPad is anything but.

I did. No reloading.

I have to be signing up for 4 or more por... err... professional websites, while listening to Pandora, checking email, and playing Bioshock (I like Rapture) to notice a form reloading.

When I use it normally it just doesn't happen =(.

I was promised a device I could use however I decided without it ever failing to do exactly what I wanted (an iPad slave, if you will).

2GB/4GB, it doesn't matter. It will fail me.

----------

The fact that you have to offer a bet rather than a legitimate source means that "It has NOT been confirmed".

And being unwilling to TAKE said bet means you know I'm RIGHT.

:p:rolleyes:

To be fair I have an iPad 2 with half of the RAM of a 4/Air, so that's probably why I experience more tab reloading.

It's dangerous just to get some information from Mail or Notes if I'm filling in a web form.
