3 month old AIR tons of problems, GENIUS INVALIDATED MY WARRENTY!

    so i just went in to apple store today to address a few issues im having:
    - device gets very hot upto 86C just when browsing the web and i managed to burn my finger.
    - hd sometimes clicks nonstop until i restart computer
    - hinges go back too far
    - videos stutter

    the genious told me because I BROKE the hinges i cant get anything else serviced and my warrenty is invalidated unless i want to pay $800-1300!!!
    WHAT A NUT JOB. When i asked him about the overheating he said its normal for such a slim laptop and im not supposed to hold it in my hand thats why its called the air?! he also said the pro's do the same thing. when i told him my friend has an air and has NONE of my problems he told me hes lucky..so he basically admitted that the whole thing is deffective in design and im out of luck. he said apple wont even send it in for service because the store will get charged back the repair post and they'll have to charge me :confused:

    guess its time to call customer relations

    Did you talk to the manager of the store? I feel as if you just got a guy on a bad day and you should go to someone else as well as complain about it. If not, call apple direct.

    Did you buy it from that store or online?

    Oh man, if someone spoke to me that way in a store, they would have to forcibly remove me with security. I would stand there until the manager showed up. I dont care if he is off that day. I'll wait for him to come in, then i'd get that 'genius' fired. Even after that, I would still call relations and tell them how s***ty that service was.

    I'm the 1st to give a good review or give positive feedback for amazing service, but to talk to you like youre not valuable is absurd.

    I hope you get this solved.

    Take a little time before you do anything else. From experience, I know that my anger at the situation sometimes gets in the way of getting a good resolution. Sometimes a smile gets quicker and faster resolution that just "being right".

    But - how did this Apple employee invalidate your Warranty?

    Did they put notes on your account saying they will not cover your computer?

    Did they offer to give you a pro-rated refund for Apple care?

    OR did u just mean they won't help so they warranty is useless?

    Either way - i wish you had a recording of this guy saying you are not supposed to hold the AIR in your hands.... if that got onto youtube etc - Apple would bend over backwards for you.

    IF i EVER have an issue with my MBA - i will turn on my audio recorder on my iphone when i go in there and just record the whole transaction.... you never know what juicy stuff you might get these days...

    I don't see what the big problem is... apple's warranty terms are clear. If there's physical damage on the machine your warranty is voided. The genius didn't void your warranty, he just informed you of the fact.

    Sure, the comment he made about not holding the air in your hands is pretty stupid, but that doesn't really change anything.

    yeah i would of caused hell, but i had an appointment with my attorney to get to

    there is no physical damage.
    on my receipt it says warrenty status: out of warrenty
    date of purchase: 2009-02-20
