I'm a supporter of universal healthcare, not Obamacare.

Looks like a big chunk of union labor feels the same, and are making the AFL-CIO feel the pain for backing Obamacare.

I wouldn't expect unions members to be immune to disinformation.

    One more note ...

According to this source, the AFL-CIO comprises 1.6 million members.

That means 40,000 members is ~2.5% of the overall membership.

Pardon me for thinking that the term "bloodbath" for this purported loss is a bit of hyperbole.

With union membership in free fall, 40,000 walking out the door is going to hurt any labor organization.

I went to the ILWU website, to their pressroom section to see what they had to say on the issue.

Quotes below can be found at: http://www.longshoreshippingnews.com/2013/09/longshore-union-quits-the-afl-cio/

The next paragraph addresses Obamacare ...

So Obamacare doesn't go far enough for them (yes I understand you article said the same thing). Like many people such as myself, they support single-payer healthcare and were disappointed that the AFL-CIO didn't push hard enough for their preferred government run plan.

But apparently, that is just a small piece of the puzzle. According to the ILWU the major factor for disaffiliation has nothing to do with Obamacare at all.

So the ILWU is really concerned with workers rights, not necessarily healthcare in particular, and felt that the AFL-CIO wasn't supporting them as much as they wanted or expected.

Somehow this gets spun into "40,000 Union Members Leave AFL-CIO Over Obamacare".

As usual the real story isn't as simple as the spin doctors would like us to believe.

Obamacare is a complete turd. It needs to be crushed and defunded. It was sold to us as as cost-saving measure, a counter to the rising cost of private health care. Then they admitted that it was actually going to cost more than the current private system. Now, it's going to cost so much more, that these crooked labor unions want out. They want special treatment. And the Obama administration is looking into how they can achieve that.

Not to mention the fact that Congress and their staffers have all been granted exemptions from Obamacare:

    http://weaselzippers.us/2013/08/02/...-congress-exemption-from-obamacare-provision/

And on top of that, Obamacare administrators are exempt from participating as well. It seems like eventually, every Democrat constituency will be exempted from Obamacare!

If Obamacare is so great, why is Obama granting exemptions from it to all his buddies? What a scam.

You should know by now that facts, truth and rationale have no effect on conservatives.
