It seems too good to be true but you get a free 14 day trial and 50 songs just to check out their service. I did my downloads and cancelled my account all in 1 hour, let's hope I don't get any charges on my credit card!

Seems like a good deal tho.

not too many selections there and they're only in mp3 format (max 190 to 220kbps). but you will find early works of Spoon, my morning jacket, new pornographers.

eMusic is an awesome site. 40 songs per month for $10 if you remain a member after your 50 free songs. I've been a member for about 3 months now, and have had no problem finding 40 songs each month that I want. Many albums that iTunes sells for $10 can be had at eMusic for $2.50 or so. The quality of the downloads has been excellent... and no DRM.

They just added music from the SST record label... Black Flag, Minutemen, Decendents.

I love emusic.com, I've had an account since December 2001, especially now Dischord Records has their back catalogue on there.
I have the 65 downloads a month and it lasts me a day. Obviously I preferred emusic when it was $10/month and unlimited but what can you do.

SST is on there?!!!!!!!! F**king Awesome!!!!!!

I can't wait for my account to refresh in 7 days!!!!
I may have to upgrade my account...

i love the fact that there's no DRM at all :D emusic does indeed rock. i dug around their site originally for the 50 free songs, was considering paying monthly, but the quality is a bit mediocre, so i dunno.

I don't have it on this computer... but there have been other links giving 100-125 free songs, still on a one month free trial basis. Requires CC (credit card) but if you cancel before the month is up you don't get charged anyway.

When I get home I'll double check to see that the links are still viable and post it up.

that's actually what i did, the current deal when you first visit eMusic.com is 100 free songs for a 30 day trial, and then you just cancel...and you can get additional 50 songs for each person you reccommend that uses it, and they get 50. That's what i assume these other people did.

i've been an emusic subscriber for 10 months. it's the perfect in-between- 1/4 the price of itunes, great selection if you have any interest in independent music, no drm. great, great service.

it's just the problem for most people is that they don't like subscriptions, even if you physically own the songs. I would rather honestly pay a little more per song and not be stuck into 40 songs/month, 80, or unlimited. Most of the time, i won't even buy songs, so why stay stuck in a service like that? I do however agree it's a great service, just the means of attaining the music is not for me.

Free is always good however. I'm thinking about using my other email and different credit card to get 125 more songs :)

I should have stuck it out for a few months at the 30 songs/month for 5.99/month price they baited me with just before cancelling. I would like to just try a subscription service just to see, I don't download from iTunes often just because it is expensive and I'd rather get the full quality CD. Forcing 30 songs/mo might just get me to try stuff I'm really unsure about that I'd probably like if I just tried it.

Maybe I'll use another credit card too...

I did that actually..only on that 125 offer posted above. Does that make me a bad person :p ?

PS: i made up an expiration date to just see if it actually checks for card info and it didn't...so if you are too afraid to put your real info, try making it up? ;)

Yes, emusic is indeed a great site.
For anyone who is interested in Classical/Opera music, I have found some wonderful obscure works by obscure composers that I would never have found on iTunes or in most record stores for that matter. And the price can't be beat. I just purchased the complete symphonies of Shostakovich (11 CD's worth) for about $15! Ok, the playing wasn't of the highest quality, but it was good enough for an enjoyable listening experience.

I just read your post and decided to join this group to warn you about eMusic.
I also did the free song thing and then cancelled the membership. Well they keep charging my credit/debit card and I can not find them on the internet at all now. So I had to go to my bank and close this account. This is a warning so they do not do that to you. Let me know if you find out anything on eMusic. I can not find a link that works.:(

Neither my boyfriend nor I have had any issues cancelling our subscriptions. Actually one time, I cancelled a day late but I still wasn't charged for a new month or anything.

And all the links I just tried still work... For example; Browse eMusic. In fact, they even have a relatively easy link to 'contact' them-- I've always had my emails answered within 24 hours. Link to the Contact Us page.To cancel my subscriptions all I had to do was go to my profile/or account (not sure now) and there was a link to cancel sub; then a series of questions asking why you want to cancel, etc.

Never had an issue. Sorry that you did though.

As long as you're not always aching for the latest vh1 and mtv tunes... they've got a lot of stuff. All those referral free song links are hard to get to the actual selection, that's why my previous post has a 'browse emusic' link. ;)

less R&B than hip hop or reggae, but yeah, they've got a bunch of it. you may as well try it out, get the 50 free and see if their selection is worth paying the monthly fee.
