Six hundred employees at an Indiana plant that President Trump claimed to save at the end of 2016 are expecting to be laid off soon, according to a new report.

CNBC reports Carrier's plant in Indianapolis is scheduled to lay off about 600 workers by the end of the year. That plant was the centerpiece of a deal touted by Trump in December 2016.

Key lines:

Before taking office Trump unveiled a deal with Carrier, a division of United Technologies Corp., which guaranteed that Carrier would continue to employ 1,069 workers for 10 years in exchange for $7 million in incentives.
However, union officials said they've received notice that 338 layoffs will take place on July 20 and 290 more employees will be laid off on Dec. 22, just before Christmas.

Another source stated that the $7M incentive was put towards automation, as in robots, not employees. There is also rumor that Carrier will be cutting another 300-600 jobs in 2018. In other news, Ford is moving a factory for the Focus they wanted in Mexico to China. Though this is mostly due to tariffs.

Oh well. People were warned that Trump wasn't going to do crap for America but they brought into his con.

Those manufacturing jobs aren't coming back. The sooner people accept this, the sooner they can move on and learn other skills.

Well it still worked out well for Trump. He got the publicity when he claimed to save them, and come 2020 no one will remember these layoffs outside the people directly effected and 600 or 1000 votes if you count family won't swing Indiana to the Democrats.

Will they keep employing the 1069 people they promised?
[doublepost=1498183452][/doublepost]It's non-news. From CNBC:
"The agreement does guarantee that Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp., will continue to employ at least 1,069 people at the Indianapolis plant for 10 years in exchange for up to $7 million in incentives. In addition, the company has promised to invest $16 million in the facility."

Carrier will then keep the people they promised to. Anything else falls outside of the deal, so I don't even know why the two are even related.

Make America Gullible Again. Republicans have been lying to the working class. They don't need coal jobs back. They need resources to retrain for better paying service jobs. We're a service economy. Globalization is not a force we can overcome with backwards policies. It's against nature. You adopt or you die.

Democrats (they are no saints either) have at least proposed several job retraining bills. All have been shot down by Republicans. They obstructed President Obama's efforts and twisted Hilary's words when she said we'll eliminate coal jobs. By the way - renewable energy employs more people than coal, gas and oil combined.

By who cares about fact, right?

Whoopsie. So many voters are going to be disillusioned over time. But that's what happens when you buy into a lyin' con man's words. People should have listened to the other people warning them.
the deal to move these employees was already out in the open and discussed when the initial story hit the news. Perhaps people should have paid attention back then.

Boeing has now announced they will be laying off up to 200 employees at their North Charleston plant and nearby locations. This is due to increased competition by Airbus. This follows a loss of about 8,000 jobs in 2016 and early 2017. This is different than the voluntary 1,700 layoffs expected in 2017.

This is the single reason I don't miss working in the aerospace industry :( There's a layoff every other day, you just have to pray to not get it by it. (I was in 2013).

Only 200 layoffs? Airbus competition my ass, They probably have to offset a miscalculation in the final cost of some screw.
