Get 'em while they're hot!

Got me a backup backup (I'll be T-Mobile forever)!

UPDATE 12/26/2008: Generally, the Refurb store is updated Monday and Thursday mornings. I would keep an eye out this Monday since the 1st batch of orders have shipped. Also, check the week after or so the iPhone Nano is released. 1st Gen iPhones are great for unlocking or purchasing without a contract. The above link is gone, but check the iPod Refurbished store to the left under "Featured Products" to see if it returns in possibly a slightly different web address:

I ordered my Thursday 12/18 morning at 7:00 am Central Time. Refurb Store updates are generally Monday and Thursday mornings. Good luck!

EDIT:

Let's keep this live for the duration.

3/17/2009 - they're back, but just sold out...

Most likely no, as it SHOULD follow the original's activation scheme, so you should be able to hack it straight out without signing anything.

If only they would do that in the UK!

If it doesn't require a 2 year contract why does it say this on Apple's site...

"To activate your iPhone you’ll need a PC or Mac, a credit card or debit card, a valid Social Security Number, access to the Internet and an email address. iPhone activation requires a two-year contract with AT&T"

You can locate it on the first paragragh at the location for the refrub 1st gen iPhone...

You sir, have just made my day! Thank you so much! I've stayed away from the 3G only because the GPS is exactly the best and was the main reason for wanting one. Now $150 for an iPhone without a contract directly from Apple WITH a 1 year warranty is definitely worth it!

SWEEEET!

I might get one even though I'm in the UK. I have friends in CA so I could probably get them to ship it over to me. It would be better if you could see it first so you knew what condition it was actually in.

That may be true, but that was the same wording as for the original iPhone when it was on general release. If you read further it will tell you how to sign up for the contract, and, as you can clearly see, you don't have to sign up front. Therefore its no commitment.

I wish I could do this!!

if it's an apple refirb- it will look new. all the refirb products look brand spankin' new- at least the ones i've ordered/seen. they replace the screens, backs, battery.

Yes, for some reason, they merged my Apple Refurbed Thread for the original 4 Gig iPhone with the AT&T 3G Refurbed thread - a bit confusing...

Sorry, that was me -- I didn't notice it was for EDGE iPhones, and I was sweeping up three or four other threads posting the availability of refurbed 3G iPhones, which oddly coincided with your post. Weird that Apple even makes the EDGE iPhone available anymore, let alone in 4GB format. But good to know they're available! Sorry again.

No problem. I understand that Apple is replacing ALL old iPhones, even 4 Gig ones, with the 8 Gig one. Now there's all these extra 4 Gig ones around, which looks like Apple is just selling outright.

Fine by me! I just got a 16 Gig Nano for my music.

Sorry, maybe later? Looks like Apple updates the Refurb store at about 5:00 am Pacific Time on Mondays and Thursdays, hence it showing up when I woke up this morning and decided to check... :)

That's what it is like in the UK.

Just get it PAYG, hand the man the cash, he hands you a brand new, sealed, iPhone 3G. Don't have to sign anything!

my dad has a old Razr, if i bought one of these iPhones, and put his SIM in it, would it work since it's not 3G? or would i still be charged for the extra packages?

anyone else waiting impatiently while hitting the refresh button for these to come back in stock?:D

I had to run to the bank, deposit money into my account...only to come back and see they are sold out.

I run out to lunch, only to come back to find out they were back...and sold out again.

So i'm hitting refresh lol
