Hi, i got a 68k mac(mac LC II) that I want to be able to get online with. It has an ethernet card as well as system 7.1 installed.

Is there a place I can download an old version of a web brouser for this machine? Thanks!

You could try Netscape Communicator 4.8. If that wants more memory than you have available, there are even older web browsers available.

You could also turn on Virtual Memory if RAM is tight, but Virtual Memory can get mighty slow.

iCab 2.9.8 is probably your best bet. Make sure you max out the ram on that thing, it'll need it.

shoot you all beat me to it, was going to suggest iCab. well I guess that means I'll have to switch my recommendation to CyberDog

thanks for the replys guys. the LC II currently has 8mb of ram(WOW).. It should work though, just slowly. :)

I had an LC II once, it was incredibly well put together, but alas it had a jard drive issue and I have never fixed it. good system though, be sure ot let us know how it goes!

Uh, I have a little problem :)

The file is 1.8 mb and a floppy only holds 1.4 :)

What should I do?

I burnt the file onto a CD and used my old external CD reader on the old mac, but it would not read the disk...

Can the LC II use a Zip drive? I also have one of those I could use...
'
thanks!

woot! It worked, but boy is the internet slow on a computer with 8mb ram :)

thanks guys!

I used to be able to surf the net pretty well on my trusty Mac IIci and Netscape 2.02, but the last couple times Netscape has been confused by all the new stuuf out there that it isn't compatible with.

iCab is by all acounts pretty good.

Google is a friend: Where To Download 680x0 Browsers.

Haven't tried any of the download links, but the page looks promising.

I would try Netscape Navigator 2 or 3... :)

I remember running Netscape 0.9x on OS 7.5 (and maybe 7.1), but that's a loooong time ago... ;)

Edit: Cyberdog was a fun browser... :D

Yes, an Early version of Netscape would be best, I had used I think 3.x on OS 7.1 and I had used it for at least 2 years, good older browser.

Just as a note, the internet will be brutal with those kind of browsers...I tried browsing around with Netscape 4.7 on an old OS 9 iMac I was playing with and it was horrid. All you'll get out of the experience will be the ability to say "hey I surfed in web on a really old school computer". :p

Checking in with Quadra 840av on icab

I figured since I hadn't booted the Quadra in quite a long time, that I would attempt to post on here with my quadra running iCab.

Sadly the smiliy shortcut buttons no longer show up on this version of the forums, with this 68k Browser, and neither do any of the other WYSIWYG tools. But never the less, you can still preply to a thread, and browse the forums! :)

I will have to see if there are any updates to this software, as I am running version 2.9.8
