SHE's going to pay for the rest of her life on this one.

I agree on the distribution charge, but I am not sure about the taking of the video itself.

I think there was a story a few years ago with a similar situation, except it was involving a male that did not distribute the video, it was of himself while he was a minor, and he was an adult when he was charged with a crime, IIRC.

I think the video or photos of himself was found on a phone or computer that he owned.

I think he ended up having to register as a sex offender, even though there wasn't a victim in the crime.

I will see if I can find the story somewhere.

As we teach digital citizenship in middle school, this is the hardest lesson for children to learn. They don't understand that it's irrelevant that they are children - child pen laws still apply. They don't understand that what you put online (or share) today, will never go away.

I'm sure this story will have an affect on other children who might do the same.

I feel sorry for her but an example has to be made so it will not happen again.

    Criminal charges are ridiculous.

But I think anyone underage should be fined, for no other reason but to prevent others kids/teens from doing such.

Because that has worked so well for texting and driving. The reality is these kids are going to do what they're going to do and holding them criminally responsibility is a fools errand. Ironically there are people who are pushing to allow 16 and 17 year old's the ability to vote.

How do you know that hasn't worked? Imagine how much worst it would be if it wasn't illegal.

Although, if social attitudes maintain their current trajectory, in a couple decades, a significant fraction of the stuff we consider porn will be viewed by most people as “meh”.

There is almost no Sex-Ed in US schools.
    Any wonder this will happen?

She was caught, but there are hundreds of thousands more like that out there.

Its called sexting. She just did a variation of it.

FFS, destroy the vids and get her some help and education on the subject. This isn't even really a problem with kids, but technology. Boys and girls playing "doctor" was sung about in songs in the 60's and 70's. There just weren't cameras and social media everywhere.

Man, I'm glad I had enough time to enjoy life before I knew what a cell-phone or the internet was. I think we had it right in the mid-90's. Computers were expensive, nobody really cared about the internet eve thought it was around, and we had enough to make life easy.

16 year olds are probably better informed than the average 70 year old.

Not in my opinion. I'm sure there are exceptions but, generally speaking, they're not.

Most 70 year olds haven’t learnt anything since they were teenagers. That’s why they are the ones who believe all the lies on the internet.

And teens don't? Come on. I think that teens receive way many more news snippets (so they are "more" informed, where more = quantity), but they certainly don't show much ability to digest those snippets (so they are "less" informed, where less = quality).
Now, the above text I wrote is an awful generalization.
