So, I ordered the Wifi+3G model, but now looking into it, I'm not sure if I need 3G, I just ordered it so I have the 3G as a backup in case something happens. But then I also have my iPhone. So a couple questions...

    1. When I receive it in the mail, If i decide to, am I able to swap it out at the Apple Store for a Wifi model and pay the difference if I want the 64gb? Or do I have to send it back to Apple and then they'll send me another one.

    2. When I get it, do I have to activate the 3G plans right when I get it, or can I activate it at any time?

    3. What would you recommend? I don't do much traveling, just some 3 hour trips to Columbus, Ohio here and there.

    Thanks for the feedback! =)

    1. As long as you don't open it and you are within the return window, that shouldn't be a problem.

    2. You can activate it at any time.

    3. I like having 3G access. I don't have a smartphone and it's nice to have data wherever I'm at. I would recommend it. I also like the GPS, which you don't get in the Wifi only model.

3 hour trips here and there sound like exactly the kind of thing a 3G ipad is made for. You can sign up for the $15/month or $25/month plan depending on your data usage. Sign up when you are going on a trip, cancel if you aren't going to use it for a while, sign up again when you need it. It's so extremely convenient to have internet while on the go. If you're willing to jailbreak your iphone, you can install an app to tether the ipad to your iphone, but that kills the iphone battery unless you have the iphone4. Compared to any of the earlier iphones, the ipad has both a bigger screen and much longer battery life. So the 3G ipad is a much better companion for any length of trip, IMO.

    1. I know you can't do a store return if you ordered online, (you have to ship it back). not sure about trading out for another model at the store, it may be allowed.

2 was answered, but if you want the Unlimited plan, the original terms were changed 2-3 weeks ago, so time was very critical to lock it in before it was not offered anymore, (the cutoff was June 7, but was extended, some buyers were still getting the option last week.)

    3. Only you can say, but if you don't care about the added cost and want the 3G option, then get it.

Yea, I have family that lives in Columbus, so I go there quite often. Hm, so I'm probably going to stick with 3G, I'll have time to decide since it ships on the 9th of July...such a long wait, grah!

I would suggest keeping the 3G model, just in case you would even need that capability.
