After browsing through the forums like so many other new iphone owners, I just thought I'd make a first post and share my "custom" case solution.

I bought a microfiber sunglass bag and stitched it up for a simple fitted sleeve. Of course, this bag won't really protect your iphone, but the microfiber cloth is nice for keeping the screen clean and generally dust-free.

For anyone interested in doing this, you just need to take in the sides and bottom of the bag, then cut off the excess. You'll also need to remove the drawstring before sewing up the sides. The final flat dimensions of my bag are 5 3/4" x 2 5/8".

This is exactly what I am looking for! Looks awesome. Where did you get your sunglass sleeve from?

Since day one I have been putting my iPhone in an old Oakley microfiber case I had. It works perfectly.

I have mine in a iPod sock, its nice to because I have like 6 diff colors, and only 6 bucks

I was looking for something at BestBuy for my wife, to toss the iPhone in her purse (and she doesn't take care of things like I do) and found that a camera case from Lowepro called the Rezo 30 is a PERFECT fit. She doesn't have to worry about the phone in her purse anymore. Also, the front pocket hold ear buds, the headphone adapter, and the micro cloth, keeping it all together.

I got the Sunglass Hut case and love it. Without modifications my iPhone in the Elan Snap-in case slips right in. There is plenty of extra room for the headphones and cleaning cloth.

I like to use mine mostly while it is in a cargo pants pocket so this solution keeps it clean from whatever may be in my pocket with it. I have big hands and really like the Elan Snap-in case. It lets me keep a good grip on it.

Tom Bihn Organizer Pouches

I found that the padded Tom Bihn organizer pouch, reviewed here, works great. A bit larger than the micro-fiber bag, but they are padded inside, with a plush lining, and have a convenient clip that works with my back pack.

I don't work for Tom Bihn, but their stuff is unbelievably well made and deserves props.

Great idea 'aoscott'! So great that I did the same thing just now! But I went for the Blue microfiber Sunglass case! For sure this is temporary until I get the time and materials for my case that I have designed.

Nice idea. I haven't been using a case, as all I wanted was something like the sleeve that came with the 5G iPod.

Waterfield Designs just came out with this, and I ended up ordering it:
