Okay a long title for a simple question really.

I have just received one of the new 3G Nanos and while I do really like it I am a little bothered by the total memory on it. I bought the 4 GB version and while I realise there are fluctuations in the amount you get (always lower). Mine actually clocks in at 3.62GB.

Now does anybody know if thats within spec? It just seems quite alot to have missing really.

Thanks.

It's a 4GB chip, but it has to be formatted and have the iPod software installed onto it. Your amount seems just fine.

I understand that, but the ipod software comes to 38mb. So in effect i have lost 400mb ish. While I never expect the full amount the 400mb seems like quite alot this time.

It's lost to formatting, as well.

It seems reasonable.

Look at how much the internal drives on Macs lose...!

Oh well, maybe its just me. I was just a little surprised this time at the amount lost - 10%.

My Mac HD and external are on about 8% and 6% respectively for lost space.

All in all though the Nano i have just bought really is a nice piece of equipment and the pictures really don't do it justice. You really need to see it in person to appreciate it.
