Picked up a A2337 MBA from a storage unit auction so know nothing about it since it powers up but the screen is cracked in the center & all I can see is some colored lines around the crack when powered on.

Bought a portable monitor with USB-C inputs from Amazon but nothing shows on the external when connected via USB-C.

If I power cycle the MBA the external monitor does flash color briefly.

Is there a keyboard command to force mirroring?

The USB-C cables I have are just used with my Android phone to charge it...do I need a special USB-C cable?

The portable monitor also has a mini-HDMI input...try that?

Want to check if iCloud-locked before paying for screen replacement.

Yes. Unless the USB-C cable says it supports video, it won't work. Even the USB-C cables included with MacBooks don't support video.

You need special USB-C cable. It has USB-C on (at least) one end but supports Thunderbolt for video. That MBA USB-C port is USB-C and Thunderbolt combined. Easiest is to get USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort cable (I use one), but if this is MBA with only one USB-C, you will not be able to charge using this cable. If you need to charge, you need likely dongle with power pass through or hub. Hubs with HDMI or DisplayPort come with their own USB-C cables which support everything. Check the dongle/hub/cable specifies it is Macos compatible. It is a mess in USB-C cables now.

Two USB-C ports on this MBA.

Bought Apple OEM Thunderbolt 3 cable (USB-C) & it still doesn't work.

External display detects it is hooked up just fine via USB-C but nothing shows on the external display.

Power cycling the MBA gets me nothing but the external screen briefly flashing pink.

Is there a keyboard command to mirror on an external display since the internal is completely unreadable?

I had assumed it would happen automatically.
