    I liked this information;

    People are going to have sex. You can't stop it. When are these people going to understand that? :rolleyes:

    I find this statistic a bit disturbing;
    Wouldn't that mean that there are a lot more kids being born when they aren't really ready for it? What could be the cause for this rise? I'd like to see some research from other parts of the world as well.

    Teaching abstinence is similar to the Nancy Reagan program of "Just Say No".

    I just did that to get people's attention. I admit it. I normally don't do that, but stating the obvious wouldn't get as many people to stop and take a look. I'm such a whore. :eek:

    It's probably that "I heart Huckabee" t-shirt you're wearing.

    You do realize why the programs must exist do you not? Whether you think they work or not the absence of the programs would be bad.

    They could be honest about drugs, that would at least get teenagers respect.

    What do you mean "honest about drugs"?

    No evidence for that at all. Go to somewhere like Scandinavian countries or the Netherlands... extremely low teen pregnancy and venereal disease rates. Why? Proper sex education at early ages, unrelated to church dogma. Works elsewhere...

    Rather than teaching propaganda that they are entirely bad and not being honest about the risks and benefits.

    Teaching that Ecstasy is evil is fairly counter-productive.

    I was going to post "Except that it doesn't" as my first sentence :p. The Waxman report pretty much definitely shows that it doesn't work.

    How could you possibly culture a healthy society without slavish devotion to arbitrarily determined and inconsistently enforced religious doctrine?

    I don't know. Please forgive my impertinence for suggesting that other countries manage to actually do some things better than the USA, without much fuss at all. I honestly don't know what I was thinking; better get me to one of those empty cathedrals I hear so much about.

    I know; we've been swapping comments here for the past few years. Who said Americans just don't get irony?

    Isn't that like goldy or bronzy, but made out of iron? Why are you talking about metal? :confused:

    I was going to post this as well. There's a good book called When Sex Goes to School by Kristen Luker. She sits down and talks to both sides (abstinence-only, and the rest of us sane people).

    In the end, I think we should just get some condom companies to pass out freebies at every high school (or rather, just outside of school grounds-no jurisdiction ;)).

    Condoms can be used incorrectly in which case they are practically useless, so you need practice first ;).
