Well I just woke up to find results to my grad school applications. I am hoping to get a master's in international affairs. I applied to two programs, both of which are top programs--Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs and the University of California's School of International Relations and Pacific Studies.

And now for the results.........drumroll...................

UCSD--Accepted:D
Columbia--Wait listed:D

!!!!

I'm pretty excited. Columbia was a reach school so I'm really happy with the wait list result; however my original plans have been to defer grad school for a year but if I am upgraded from the waitlist I can not defer, nor will I receive funding for the first year. I am now waiting on fellowship information from UCSD. Costs of attendance for two years? Columbia--$130k, UCSD--$61.2k:eek::eek::eek:

Yessssss!!!!:D:D:D

Congrats!!

Now, when you get there, make sure you have a backup of all your data
I don't want you posting a thread about how your HD crashed and you lost your research papers

I too got accepted into grad school today

15 spots for over 150 applicants. Initially told not to get hopes up as I applied way late in the game

Nice gig though. Get all tuition paid for with a 25k salary as well

I was bouncing off the walls earlier today do I know how you feel OP:) Congrats!

Congrats to the both of you then

And Duke, if you don't have a backup then I don't feel sorry for you :)

Good luck! You'll learn more and more about less and less. :)

Have fun with those student loans after you graduate. Mine are about $500 a month.

I din't have a backup lol. I left my job in NY on the CHANCE of getting in as I wanted to change directions with my life

I usually never leave a sure thing for a random thing but the one time I did, it worked out. I am relieved

Thanks for the congrats though:)

That's nothing. Mine are even reduced and it's tripple what you have. :(

Haha thanks guys!

I did indeed fill out my FAFSA...but to my understanding the max I can borrow from them is about $24k per year...which means I then need to seek external third party loans (Sallie Mae, etc.?).

How does this work? As an undergrad I always just filled out a FAFSA and it was a done deal, the money was there automatically and I didn't have to do anything beyond filling out the FAFSA.

But now since I'll be hitting the cap for the FAFSA and have to seek outside loans, how does that work? Is the money pretty much guaranteed much like it is with the FAFSA or could they actually say "Ah, yeah, no--we're actually not going to give you any money" much like could happen with a car loan, etc.?

The last thing I want to do is leave Japan, come back, and find out I can't even get enough loans to go to school...

This makes three future grad students on here then.

I got accepted a few weeks ago into an MA/PhD program and will be getting a full tuition waiver and a TA stipend, although one not nearly as generous as duke's. That's what I get for going into the humanities.

I'm lucky to have very little debt from my undergrad (which I can defer for 6 more years or however long it takes me to finish), even luckier for it to all be federal debt, and even luckier still for only a small amount to be unsubsidized loans (which I can pay off this summer before going to school).

Congrats!!!!:D:D:D

Go to the UC!

University of California, San Diego.... i have buddies that go their.....

well it's your choice...:p

Congrats to all!
