Bummer for the iPhone. I'd be all for pushing HTML5 as a standard but that's not going to happen for awhile.

Hulu on your phone sounds great. And supposedly the new flash is supposed to be really impressive.

Can't say I'm surprised to see no support for the iPhone. And don't act like if it wasn't available you wouldn't ever use it. Its not like you'd have to use it on your phone, but having the ability to use it would be great.

seeing how big brands like Gatorade, nike, Prada, Bananana, Disney, Sony all use flash in one way or another... hell 2/3 of the home page for J.Crew online store is a flash player here in the US - it will not be history anytime soon - If done right Flash is a great tool .

before people start talking about "other technologies" - every design studio gets Flash as part of CS - the fact that the iPhone does not run Flash (yet all other will) wont make them change.

can just see every other cell maker advertising how you need their device/browser if you want to see websites on the go like you do at home

just a matter of time for flash to come to mobiles - for those who do not want it, do not install the plug-in on that day - same choice you have today on your laptop and desktops.

Not so sure you can compare one to the other.

If I want to send a picture to my friend who doesn't have a "smart" phone, just a normal mobile, I need MMS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Flash is totally useless, but what part of the list of fundemenatal phone tasks, or even smartphone tasks, does a lack of flash stop me doing?

It might be nice to have, but it's not exactly vital. I'd rather not have flash than compromise my use of my phone by having poorly implemented flash.

everyone is missing the point, the point ONCE AGAIN is that everyone will have something, and apple users won't, it's a timeless tradition i guess. you can sit here all day and keep saying "whats the point do we need it" but the point is that everyone else will have it and the iphone won't, just like MMS was for years

Not having flash on the iPhone is not a bad thing...The last thing I want to have happen is a talking ad to go off while I in a meeting...

Hopefully someone will release a browser on the iPhone with build in flash support to replace Safari.

On all my platforms I use Firefox, due to all the sweet addons for it. Comeon Firefox for iPhone, (I dont think Apple would allow it).

What I don't get is why some people here are acting like the only people in favor of Flash are in favor of it as a technology. Uh, no, we need Flash so that end users can use the many, many, many, many websites that require it for either all or part of their functionality. These debates over Flash's merits completely miss the point: Flash is a fait accompli on the web, therefore it must be supported to provide a full web experience, no matter how horrid it may be. Apple can be an ******* about it for as long as it likes, and maybe even get a few sites like Youtube to go through the arduous step of converting all their content just for one Apple device, but do you really think the entire web is going to reshape itself just to please one company? It's been three years now, how many more before this pie in the sky fantasy is realized? Sorry, Apple's not being principled, or forward thinking: they're either hampered by self imposed technical limitations or they're being stubborn, period.

All Hulu needs to do is create an app and you can skip the bloatware.

apple doesn't allow 3rd party browsers, or any app that replaces native functionality, all other phones do tho

I love how you all have been brainwashed by apple.

Really? All of us who posted on this thread? You _sure_ about that?

6 months ago you were all complaining that you couldn't get flash on the iphone.

Show me where I complained about a lack of flash on the iphone 6 months ago?

Would you guys be happy if you could get Silverlight on the iphone?

Seems a bit pointless without the rest of the MS coding stack. But I'd be happy to see as many frameworks as possible on my phone provided it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the phone. What I _do_ dislike is half-hearted efforts. If it can't be done properly I'd much rather something wasn't done at all.

I agree with you, but they do allow other 3rd party to make browsers based on Safari, who says no one can add the flash to a browser app on the iPhone. If adobe claims they will make IPA addons for apps.

Like it or not, Flash is required, otherwise a lot of content is automatically missing.

Apple are being anal. Its all Apple or nothing, as far as they are concerned.

HTML 5 features will not become mainstream until the browser with the largest market share supports it, and that is IE. Microsoft drag their heels when it comes to W3C.

Those people who don't want Flash on their iPhone / Touch, that's fine - you just don't install it, if and when it becomes available.

Yep. virtually EVERY visually cool site out there uses Flash, and some are entirely Flash.

But the pimpleheads sitting in their basements don't get any of it, and most never will.

The lack of Flash will definitely hurt the iPhone, once the general public becomes aware, that it is the only major mobile platform without Flash support.

I hate Flash too and I would like to see it disappear from the web entirely. But let us face it: Flash is widely used, and those websites that are using it require Flash to be viewed at all (for example YouTube, although we have an App for that).

I use my iPhone for browsing on-the-go very often and rely on the capabilities of the browser. If a website cannot be displayed because it requires Flash, then I cannot see the website at all. I once needed to view a webpage a while ago where no computer was available. With the iPhone and a 3G connection, this would not be a problem. Unfortunately, the website required Flash to be viewed –*and that was it. As long as Flash is widely accepted, Apple is making a big mistake by not supporting it.

Apple should start to support Flash, with an option to disable it.

The bigger point is its standard on all other major manufacturers/os's in the smartphone market. So regardless if it sucks, or you'd never use it, or don't even want it, its just another thing that the iPhone doesn't have. But hey maybe 2 years from now they'll roll it out to existing customers.

I don't get it. Everyone acts like they would NEVER use flash. I come across websites all the time that require flash...at the very least I'd watch hulu on the thing or play flash games or whatever. Flash is everywhere, even if its terrible (and we should be pushing HTML5).

Its just amazing how, because It wont run smoothly on the iphone, Apple has managed to make all the apple fanboys hate flash. Im sorry but the quicktime alternative is just as bad (Or worse).

Would you guys be happy if you could get Silverlight on the iphone?

+1

"It's not cool until we have it" - sounds like the people on this forum, and you can't possibly tell me otherwise...

How soon they forget...

I still recall Mossberg, in his early July 2007 reviews, stating that Flash (video) would soon come as an update.

Q: If the iPhone’s Web browser is so good, why can’t it play video on Web sites I visit?

A: At launch, the iPhone version of the Safari browser is missing some plug-ins needed for playing common types of Web videos. The most important of these is the plug-in for Adobe’s Flash technology. Apple says it plans to add that plug-in through an early software update, which I am guessing will occur within the next couple of months.

I remember this making people think that Flash support was coming in the first few updates. Of course, people thought the same about copy & paste, MMS, etc, coming soon.

My understanding is that Apple is afraid all the free flash games (and apps) will take away revenue from the app store. Because if you can rush flash on the phone then you can pretty much accomplish 70% of what most iPhone apps are capable of.

Oh is that so?

https://www.macrumors.com/2008/02/11/adobe-flash-support-for-iphone-coming-alongside-sdk/

Is there a reason for the overwhelming positive ratings?...oh right...
But there were 54 negatives. Which means that there was a least some dissension. Thus, disproving Nicolasdec's claims that "all" were complaining that you couldn't get flash on the iphone.

If by plenty you mean 10-15 people...oookay.....
At least 54 according to that one article.
