Hi, I have OS 10.3.9 installed with the classic environment. When I try to open Pagemaker 7 it just bounces in the dock and just goes away without opening. I have checked for all the updates and installed them. On another machine when I got info on the program it gave me a box to check that said: "Open in Classic Environment", yet this machine doesn't give me that option. I have tried both with just the system folder installed, as well as the full OS 9.2.2. I know that option has something to do with how classic programs are carbonized and carbon library. I just don't understand how the one machine gave me the check box and the other one doesn't. Please help. Thank You

Chris

Have you gone into Classic Environment preferences with System Preferences to make certain that there is a System Folder selected? If one is not selected, it will not be able to start the Classic Environment.

Try restarting your classic environment. I get this same problem from time to time and restarting the environment usually fixes the problem. you can restart by going to the system preferences and going into the classic pane and press restart.

PageMaker 7.0 should work in Classic under 10.3.x, as well as PageMaker ever works (which is pretty poorly). It probably crashed the Classic environment. You could try another Classic application to make sure it's still running or restart it as suggested. If you have repeated problems with PM running in Classic, a common culprit is missing, duplicated or corrupted fonts in the OS 9 fonts folder. PM hates that.

Which application did you open on that other machine? It most certainly was not PageMaker 7. As PageMaker 7 is MacOS 9-exclusive, it can open only in Classic. Because no option is necessary, no option is given.

That is not true because on the other machine I had the option to select that box and it opened fine without any problems. Thanks
