I have an iPhone 3GS (week 21) and am getting very, very pi55ed off with o2 messing me around over official unlock.

I am very very close to using Blackra1n/Blacks0w to unlock myself (would prefer legal solution but o2 are being awkward at the moment.

The question is if I proceed to unlock the unofficial way can I restore to an 'as new' iPhone out of box installation at any time (like when o2 start being reasonable)?

Any advice appreciated - I'm hovering over the make it ra1n button!

Nope, App Store will still work just the same way, your sync with iTunes will still work same way.

So basically I can revert to my original firmware/settings at any point with no harm done? If I needed to return it to Apple at any point would they be able to tell it had been Jailbroken/Unlocked at some time?

Sorry for all the questions. Can't find what I need to know stated clearly and in one place.

Yes mate, i did read the previous post I'm just not sure that after setting up as a new phone I can then restore data from my pervious backup. Hope that make sense. To me set up as new phone means start from scratch. Sorry for misunderstanding..

No, you can't do that. That's the point. You don't want to restore from a backup because your backup will contain traces of your previous jailbreak. You have to set up as a new phone. You will still be able to sync content (media, contacts, etc.) but you will lose saved app data, settings, and MMS. If you want to erase all traces of jailbreak, that is the only way.

Don't be so hung up on losing all traces of your jailbreak. If you do a restore to a factory ispw, Apple is not going to go all CSI on you to figure out if it was ever jailbroken!

Relax and enjoy!
