Split verdict on Salim Hamdan, bin Laden's driver, at Guantanamo trial - The Times

The verdicts (from the BBC website).

The chauffeurs of Dubya and the odious twat Mr. Anthony Blair must be breathing huge sighs of relief now that we have finally established that being a driver is not a war crime.

We've stopped him from getting to important public appearances in a limo. We can sleep peacefully tonight.

In seriousness, these courts are a joke.

Of course, the irony is that his sentence on the lesser charge is likely to be equal to less than the time he has spent in detention already... and even if it is, he won't be released until the GWOT is over. With some luck, that should set him free sometime in the late 2200s. Right after we win the war on drugs.

Isn't this the absolute negation of the entire judicial process, if the state reserves the right to ignore the sentence passed down? What on earth was the point in holding the trial at all?

Because Cheney and his minions couldn't quite get away with holding them with no "trial" at all.

I'm sickened by the entire thing. I literally get sick to my stomach thinking about how these people have perverted the United States of America beyond anything I've ever seen in my lifetime.

If he was found not-guilty, what would they do with him?

he will be sent back to gitmo for foreseeable future.

Really, why even bother with trial since he won't be freed no matter what the outcome would be.... what a waste of time and money

Likely the same thing they did in 2006 and 2007; redefine the terms.

Ah... so it's not really a trial, but more of a... procedure.

Unfortunately a Standard Operating Procedure now. :(

You guys remember when the US used to be able to tell other countries off when they did this sort of crap? that's like so last century.

The only thing the White House needs is somebody willing to do the right thing and make proper use of the industrial versions of Ex-Lax, 10k gallon Enema Bag, and a 40 ft tall plunger.

    Oh the hypocrisy.

Today I read this, but the night before I saw on the news Bush making a speech before he went to the Olympics saying how China should give basic human rights.
